Build your future with us
Our Surety department is currently seeking an underwriter in our commercial and small contract division. Surety bonding involves assessing the ability of one party to fulfill an obligation to another party according to the terms of a contract or statute.
Salary: The starting pay for this position is $70,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.
Be ready to:
  • underwrite and process renewal bonds
  • review new and renewal submissions from our agents
  • determine acceptable risks and adequate pricing within authority levels
  • support underwriting decisions on all other accounts through file preparation and documentation by gathering information and analyzing and evaluating risk exposure
  • manage agency requests and communicate directly with the agency to gather needed information
  • research and gather needed information to be able to understand bond form questions and refer to underwriter and team leader when necessary
  • act as a resource for team production assistants and assist with processing work as needed
  • handle special projects and assignments as directed

Be equipped with:
  • the ability to interpret and analyze financial statements
  • strong verbal and written communication skills to explain, persuade and present information
  • the ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • excellent attention to detail
  • the ability to work independently and proactively in an orderly and timely manner
  • highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • the ability to help make sound decisions based on information presented
  • the capacity to develop positive working relationships with team members and agents by working to find possible solutions and options that are beneficial to all
  • proficiency in Microsoft® Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred

Bring education or experience from:
  • a bachelor's degree from the business college with an emphasis in finance, accounting, or economics
