Job description

Who We Are:
The MET Church is located on the Northwest side of Houston and our mission is to invite people into meaningful relationship with God and each other. We believe making disciples of Jesus happens in the context of relationship and that small group environments are where we grow spiritually in community with other believers. We also live to serve and connect our local community to hope through our variety of mission efforts and care ministries. You will find our Sunday morning worship to be contemporary and energetic with Bible based teaching focused on understanding and applying God's word as truth in our lives. At The MET, we are asking God to build a thriving community of people who are following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and committed to the mission of Jesus.
About This Role:
The Student Ministry Associate is a developmental leadership role for an emerging ministry leader who is passionate about discipling students, investing in volunteer leaders, and growing in ministry responsibility. This position provides hands-on experience in student ministry leadership, communication, volunteer development, and strategic planning while serving alongside an experienced ministry team.
This role is designed for someone with prior ministry experience through an internship, residency, church staff role, or significant volunteer leadership, who is ready for the next step in their ministry journey. The ideal candidate is relationally gifted, highly teachable, organized, and committed to continual growth.
The Student Ministry Associate will contribute meaningfully to student discipleship, volunteer leadership, parent engagement, and ministry execution while being developed through coaching, mentorship, and progressively increased responsibility as they demonstrate readiness and effectiveness.
Who You Are: Competencies, Abilities, & Character Qualities
  • You love Jesus and are committed to growing as a disciple by abiding in Christ, living in meaningful relationships with others, and being a disciple-maker (John 15, Acts 2, Matt. 4:19, Matt. 28).
  • You have meaningful ministry experience through a church internship, residency, staff role, or significant ministry leadership opportunity.
  • You are teachable, coachable, and eager to grow as a leader.
  • You naturally build trust with students, parents, and volunteer leaders.
  • You are a self-starter who takes initiative and follows through on commitments.
  • You value both relational ministry and organizational excellence.
  • You're emotionally mature. You understand the dynamics of effectively working with and through others to complete tasks and projects, as well as resolving conflict in healthy, God-honoring ways.
  • You champion and model the core virtues of The MET Church - humility, effectiveness, awe, relationship and truth.

What You Will Do: Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Live out the core virtues and mission of The MET to invite others into meaningful relationship with God and each other.
  • Collaborate in planning and leading student ministry programming, ensuring excellence in execution, alignment with the ministry's discipleship strategy, and an environment that prioritizes physical, emotional, and spiritual safety for students and volunteers.
  • Recruit, equip, and disciple a diverse volunteer team, creating a culture of Christ-centered leadership and relational ministry. Develop them to become disciple-makers who influence the next generation with intentionality and care.
  • Connect relationally and authentically with students, parents, and volunteers across generations, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds-building trust and community through emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Disciple and equip students and parents through milestone moments, helping them navigate spiritual formation and life transitions with clarity, care, and celebration.
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity and self-awareness, navigating interpersonal dynamics with wisdom, humility, and confidence-especially in times of conflict, tension, or change.
  • Provide consistent, quality programming for students that aligns with the ministry's mission, and reflects thoughtful planning, engaging teaching, and spiritual depth.
  • Serve as a pastoral touchpoint for students and their families, offering biblical counsel and support around salvation, baptism, and spiritual milestones.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety, ensuring all events and environments-on or off campus-uphold The MET's safety and screening policies.
  • Collaborate on the planning and execution of key events (e.g., Student WKND, mission trips, summer camps), and assist in developing annual sermon series in partnership with the Student Pastor.
  • Keep ministry data organized and accurate by updating church databases to ensure effective communication, follow-up, and care.
  • Support budgeting and stewardship, managing expenses in alignment with student ministry's financial goals and priorities.
  • Coach and mentor interns assigned to student ministry, providing guidance, feedback, and leadership opportunities that contribute to their growth.
  • Partner with the Communications team to develop and deliver creative, timely promotions that reflect the heart and strategy of student ministry.
  • Pursue continual growth by cultivating a spirit of humility, seeking feedback, and actively engaging in personal and professional development opportunities that strengthen your calling to full-time ministry.

Your Qualifications: Education & Experience
  • You are a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, actively pursuing spiritual growth and committed to living out your faith in daily life.
  • You are (or are willing to become) a member of The Met Church, affirming and aligning with our mission, culture, and community.
  • You agree with and live in accordance with The Met's Statement of Beliefs and actively uphold the values and teachings of Scripture.
  • You are actively participating in or leading a discipleship-based small group, demonstrating a lifestyle of spiritual accountability, community, and growth.
  • You have demonstrated ministry experience through an internship, residency, church staff role, or similar ministry leadership opportunity (strongly preferred).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while taking ownership of assigned ministry responsibilities.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Technologically adaptable and administratively capable-proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn and navigate new tools and systems quickly.

Hours and Work Environment:
This is a full-time, salaried position. A typical work schedule is Sunday through Thursday and may include Friday &/or Saturday to meet the needs of various ministry events.
