Job description

Summary and Purpose
The Senior Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader, teacher, and visionary of Deeper Life in Christ Church. Pastor is responsible for preaching and teaching God's Word, shepherding the congregation, equipping believers for ministry, leading staff and ministry leaders, and guiding the overall mission, vision, and values in alignment with the Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA). This role requires a shepherd's heart, strong communication skills, and Spirit-led leadership grounded in biblical truth and the Great Commission, both locally and globally.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Credentialed and licensed by the Christian & Missionary Alliance or willing to pursue licensing.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in ministry or theology preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years pastoral leadership experience or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in preaching, team leadership, and pastoral care.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and cultivate multi-generational ministry, engaging diverse age groups in unified discipleship and mission.

  • Evidences a mature, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Meets biblical qualifications for an elder (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9).

Workload & Compensation

Key Responsibilities
1. Preaching & Teaching (35-45%)
  • Prepare and deliver weekly biblically based preaching and teaching that is doctrinally sound and truth-telling.
  • Provide oversight for all ministries to ensure theological alignment with C&MA doctrine.
  • Equip the church through classes, Bible studies, and discipleship pathways.

2. Vision & Strategic Leadership (15-20%)
  • Seek the Lord's direction for the church and clearly articulate a Spirit-led vision.
  • Collaborate with the Elders to establish ministry priorities and long-term direction.
  • Encourage a "mindshift" toward immediate kingdom work, helping the church transition from talking to doing.
  • Ensure ministry alignment with the mission and values of the C&MA (Our Faith and Mission).
  • Lead the church with a multi-generational focus, fostering ministry that engages children, youth, adults, and seniors together in discipleship, worship, and mission.

3. Shepherding & Pastoral Care (15-20%)
  • Provide pastoral care through prayer, visitation, counseling, and crisis support.
  • Lead or oversee weddings, funerals, dedications, baptisms, and other pastoral functions.
  • Equip and mobilize leaders and volunteers to participate in pastoral care.
  • Demonstrate relational warmth, empathy, and approachability.
  • Serve in a way that strengthens unity and discipleship.

4. Leadership of Ministry Teams (10-20%)
  • Oversee ministry team leadership; provide clarity, encouragement, accountability, and support.
  • Intentionally develop leaders through coaching, mentoring, and team development.
  • Foster a healthy, unified, collaborative ministry culture.
  • Serve as a leadership developer with ministry leaders reporting to the Senior Pastor.

5. Administration & Governance (10-15%)
  • Chair the Elder Board, setting spiritual and strategic vision.
  • Partner with the Elder Board to ensure strong governance, financial oversite and effective ministry operations.
  • Oversee ministry planning, goal setting, and implementation.
  • Demonstrate progress toward or completion of C&MA licensing requirements, if licensing if needed.
  • Ensure compliance with church by-laws, policies and procedures, modeling integrity and accountability in governance.

6. Community & Global Mission (5-10%)
  • Promote active engagement in local outreach, evangelism, and compassion ministries.
  • Help the church engage in 1-2 focused community outreach ministries on a regular basis.
  • Champion the Great Commission Fund and C&MA global mission efforts.
  • Support and encourage cross-cultural ministry and sending workers.
  • Foster partnerships with other Alliance churches in the area and other local churches.
