Are you passionate about smart design and solving complex challenges?
Do you enjoy seeing your work directly influence successful, high-performing projects in the built environment?
We're looking for a Tapered Design Specialist to play a key role in supporting the commercial roofing market through independent, technically sound tapered insulation design solutions. In this role, you will evaluate complex project requirements, apply drainage and constructability principles, and deliver complete tapered system packages that improve roof performance, streamline installation, and reduce downstream risk.
This is a high-impact, highly collaborative role for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, partnering with customers, and exercising judgment to deliver designs that make a measurable difference on the jobsite.
What You'll Do
Tapered System Design & Technical Solution Development
  • Own end-to-end tapered insulation design deliverables for commercial roofing projects, including layouts, technical documentation, and material takeoffs/estimates
  • Interpret architectural drawings, roof plans, and specifications to develop solutions aligned with drainage intent, project constraints, and applicable requirements
  • Apply engineering judgment and roofing systems knowledge to optimize designs for performance, material efficiency, constructability, and installation sequencing
  • Identify design risks, field constraints, and scope gaps; recommend alternatives and clarifications to improve execution outcomes
  • Maintain consistent design quality by applying established standards, documenting assumptions, and ensuring technical completeness of the final package

Customer Partnership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a technical advisor for contractors, architects, and internal commercial teams on tapered systems, product selection, and design best practices
  • Partner closely with sales and service teams from initial design through order placement and delivery, helping ensure smooth execution and customer success
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly, influencing decisions through recommendations grounded in project realities and performance outcomes

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, or a related field
OR equivalent experience (2+ years) in commercial construction design, building products, estimating, or roofing-related technical services
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret construction documents and translate requirements into practical technical solutions
  • Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer-facing mindset
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects independently while maintaining accuracy, organization, and deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management/Technology, or a related field
  • Experience with tapered insulation systems, commercial roofing design/support, or manufacturer/distributor technical services
  • Experience supporting project estimating, documentation, and customer technical problem resolution in a building products environment

Why This Role Matters
In this role, your work directly influences roof performance, installation success, and customer confidence. You'll collaborate with experts across engineering, sales, and service teams while building specialized expertise in a technically sophisticated, high-growth segment of commercial construction.
If you enjoy blending technical skill with real-world application-and want your work to have visible, lasting results-we'd love to hear from you.
