Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Adjunct Instructor for BioWork. The adjunct instructor for BioWork is responsible for the preparation, delivery, grading, and records management of the courses listed for the Biotechnology BioManufacturing Continuing Education program. The instructor will work closely with his or her Program Director on matters related to and for the benefit of the Science and Math department and its students.
Examples of Duties
  1. Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner;
  2. Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  3. Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour; develops short courses and training modules in areas of expertise in biomanufacturing; constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course.
  4. Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
  5. Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
  6. Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
  7. Maintains currency in field of expertise, in training and instructional development, and in course delivery to ensure best practices in implementing and delivering education and training
  8. Monitors biomanufacturing industry trends and benchmark practices in other states and countries
  9. Develops reports related to established metrics that assess the effectiveness of our programs and to gauge the needs of the industry sector
  10. Maintains effective working relationships with industry representatives, community college staff, and the general public.
  11. Must complete mandatory training.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent (ex. GED, HiSET);
  2. BioWork Certificate, and;
  3. A minimum of three years of experience working in a pharmaceutical and/or biomanufacturing CGMP environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or in a related discipline;
  2. A minimum of two years of working in a pharmaceutical and/or biomanufacturing CGMP environment.

Supplemental Information
  1. Experience with Cleanroom Gowning, CGMP, Quality, Biology, Math, Aseptic techniques, Chemistry, SOP writing, and Trouble shooting skills.
  2. Experience with delivering training courses/programs.
  3. Familiarity with current biotechnology practices.
  4. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills
  5. Effective oral and written communication/public relation skills
  6. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  7. Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  8. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  9. Ability to think creatively and put ideas into action
  10. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects
  11. Ability to select training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new concepts
  12. Ability to make presentations to large audiences
  13. Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  14. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  15. Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.

Normal Working Hours:
This is a part-time position, with availability of contract hours and scheduling (day/evening/online/in-person) dependent on enrollment needs each semester. May need to attend 2 or 3 unpaid staff meetings/trainings per year.
