Job description

The Sr. Staff Exploration Geoscientist should have strong seismic interpretation skills that incorporate sound geologic and geophysical concepts. The position requires integration of seismic and well data to generate both regional and prospect scale maps. Proficiency in AVO, rock physics and QI techniques is desired. Talos Energy values self-starters with strong communication skills. Candidate must be able to generate leads/prospects and bring prospects to technically mature status.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to integrate geophysical, geologic, and engineering data to generate prospects and evaluate well results
  • Seismic Interpretation from regional to prospect scale integrating all relevant well information
  • Work Federal lease sales to recommend purchase of leases in existing or new geologic trends
  • Extensive experience with supra and subsalt amplitude plays
  • Experience interpreting subsalt structural plays, including in areas that are structurally complex and poorly imaged
  • Recommend areas of future exploration efforts, including acquisition of new geophysical and geologic data
  • Application of quantitative interpretation methods to generate probabilistic risk and resource estimation, seeking input from peers to ensure a robust and consistent prospect evaluation is achieved
  • Support the Corporate Development team in evaluating outside opportunities in the deepwater GOM and International ventures
  • Collaborate with joint venture partners to identify exploration leads and influence new drilling opportunities
  • Maintain practical familiarity with current exploration trends, workflows, and seismic imaging technologies
  • Provide technical insight and maintain familiarity with competitor activity, recommending ways to exploit opportunities using public information

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • 12+ years' experience at an Upstream E&P company
  • Deepwater GOM experience is required. International deepwater experience is desired.
  • Must be a proven oil finder
  • M&A experience is desired
  • Master's Degree in Geology/Geophysics

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
  • Must have firm understanding of geophysical concepts
  • Strong background in deepwater depositional systems and sequence stratigraphy
  • Able to organize and prioritize a diverse and heavy workload
  • Create strong work relationships with internal staff, vendors, contractors
  • Communicate effectively, both written and orally in a collaborative environment
  • Recognize personal strengths and weaknesses and be proactive in self-development
  • Have a strong sense of integrity and the ability to deal with ethical situations effectively
  • Willing to work a demanding and flexible schedule
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, IHS Kingdom, and Rose and Associates RoseRA is required
  • Experience with Spotfire, RokDoc and Petrel is desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion. A fair amount of standing and walking is also required for the position.
