Job description

Responsibilities We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mid-Level Systems Engineer to join our growing team in CO Springs, CO. In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our IT systems and infrastructure. You will work closely with senior engineers, IT managers, and other team members to ensure the integrity, reliability, and performance of critical business systems. The ideal candidate has a firm grasp of systems engineering principles, solid problem-solving skills, and hands-on experience with modern IT environments and technologies. Key Responsibilities Systems Implementation and Maintenance * Install, configure, and maintain systems, servers, hardware, and software.
* Perform routine system upgrades and patches to ensure optimal performance and compliance with security standards.
* Manage hardware inventory, ensuring proper deployment and updating of infrastructure components.
* Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to prevent downtime using diagnostic tools.
Network and Infrastructure Support * Support the design, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless systems.
* Implement and maintain backup, failover systems, disaster recovery solutions, and data storage systems to ensure business continuity.
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and network issues, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
* Collaborate with the Network and Help Desk teams for seamless configuration, integration, and user support.
Security and Compliance * Enforce system and network security standards, implement policies for data access, encryption, and endpoint security.
* Monitor for system vulnerabilities and proactively implement fixes or escalations as needed.
* Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements related to IT infrastructure security and data protection (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, NIST).
Technical Collaboration * Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, DevOps, and support staff, to ensure infrastructure aligns with business needs.
* Provide Tier 2/3 support for infrastructure-related incidents and escalate critical issues to senior engineers when necessary.
* Participate in system design reviews and provide input into architecture planning and roadmaps to improve efficiency and scalability.
Documentation and Reporting * Maintain accurate and detailed documentation for system configurations, processes, network diagrams, and troubleshooting guidelines.
* Assist in creating user guides, training materials, and documentation for technical support staff.
* Prepare reports on system performance, security status, and issues for management.
Qualifications Required: * Must possess and maintain an active TS/SCI Clearance.
* Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years; MS with 3-5 years or a PhD with 0-2 years in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* 3+ years of hands-on experience in systems engineering, network administration, or IT infrastructure management.
* Proven ability to work in fast-paced environments, supporting business-critical systems.
* Technical Expertise: * Proficient in systems administration concepts-installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
* Strong working knowledge of operating systems, including Windows Server, Linux, and UNIX.
* Exposure to virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and basic understanding of containerization solutions like Docker and Kubernetes.
* Basic networking knowledge-TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching.
* Familiarity with enterprise storage systems like SAN and NAS.
* Problem-Solving Skills: * Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a logical approach to diagnosing and resolving system issues.
* Collaboration and Communication: * Excellent team collaboration and verbal/written communication skills to support end users and work across technical and non-technical teams.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a larger IT team.
* Project Coordination: * Experience participating in system upgrades, migrations, and implementations.
* Strong organization skills with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications * Industry certifications such as: * Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
* CompTIA Server+, Network+, or Security+
* VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or similar.
* Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
* Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
* Familiarity with IT management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
* Knowledge of automation tools, scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash), and CI/CD processes.
* Experience implementing and managing firewalls, security appliances, and endpoint protection for corporate networks.

There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
