The HospitalBased Outpatient Oncology/NonOncology Infusion Unit is a specialized treatment area designed to provide safe, efficient, and patientcentered infusion therapy for individuals requiring both oncology and nononcology infusion services. As a hospitalbased outpatient department, the unit operates under hospital clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and quality protocols while providing convenient access to outpatient infusion care.

The unit features six infusion chairs, each equipped to support a wide range of intravenous therapies and supportive care treatments. Services include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapy, IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, blood product administration, therapeutic injections, and symptommanagement interventions. All treatments are administered by oncologytrained registered nurses who follow evidencebased guidelines, specialized medicationhandling procedures, and continuous patientmonitoring practices.

The care team collaborates closely with oncology providers, primary care physicians, specialists, and pharmacists to ensure coordinated treatment planning and continuity across the patient's care journey. The environment is designed to promote comfort, safety, and privacy while maintaining efficient patient flow for both scheduled and timesensitive infusion needs.

The unit's core mission is to deliver highquality, compassionate outpatient infusion care within a hospitalbased setting, prioritizing safety, patient education, clinical excellence, and an optimal treatment experience. Within our department, our nurses are to obtain a Chemotherapy/biotherapy provider certificate within 6 months of hire. Additionally, newly hired nurses are required to obtain Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification within three years of hire, with organizational support provided to help meet this requirement.

Qualifications 

• Requires 1 year RN experience.

• Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

• Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.

• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
