Job description

Summary
As a Commercial Lines Field Risk Consultant, you'll play a key role in helping businesses protect what matters most. Serving as a trusted advisor to policyholders, underwriting, and claims teams, you'll deliver expert risk management and loss prevention solutions that help organizations operate more safely, reduce exposures, and strengthen long-term performance.
In this highly consultative role, you'll conduct on-site evaluations of commercial operations, identify hazards and emerging risks, analyze exposures, and develop practical, business-focused recommendations that help customers improve safety and prevent losses. You'll partner directly with policyholders to support implementation of risk improvement strategies while providing valuable insights that inform underwriting decisions and contribute to profitable growth.
What you'll do
  • Conduct on-site surveys of commercial accounts to identify and evaluate property, liability, and commercial auto exposures.
  • Perform hazard identification, risk assessments, and evaluations of existing controls and safety programs.
  • Analyze operational processes, loss history, inspection findings, and exposure data to determine risk quality.
  • Develop comprehensive risk assessment reports and communicate findings to underwriting and policyholders.
  • Develop account-specific service plans and recommendations designed to reduce loss frequency and severity.
  • Monitor progress on recommendations and conduct follow-up activities as necessary.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents and brokers.
  • Participates in agency visits and staff meetings.
  • Provide risk quality assessments and recommendations that inform underwriting decisions, account pricing considerations, retention strategies, and portfolio management objectives.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to Claims, Underwriting, and other business partners. May also provide training.
  • Complete timely and accurate inspection reports, including photographs, diagrams, and recommendations.
  • Assist with quality reviews of vendor surveys.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Insurance, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience in commercial risk control, loss control, safety management, underwriting support, or a related discipline.
  • Experience evaluating commercial property and casualty risks preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Commercial Property, General Liability and exposures and controls. Knowledge of Commercial auto is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Building codes, NFPA standards, fire protection systems, and risk management principles.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organization, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and risk assessment/reporting platforms.

Working Conditions

Pay Transparency: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Salary Range: $77,700- $100,600
