To thrive as an Associate Professor of English, you typically need a Ph.D. in English or a related field, strong research capabilities, and a proven record of scholarly publications and effective teaching. Familiarity with learning management systems (such as Canvas or Blackboard), academic databases, and digital research tools is important. Associate Professors of English often juggle a combination of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting original research, and participating in departmental or university service such as committees or student advising.
