Sr. Associate, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems - Projects

Primary Responsibilities

This role is an integral part of the Manufacturing Engineering – Systems team that supports the shop floor in testing deliverable WESCAM product. The successful candidate will work to ensure the highest quality product is manufactured, through development work that enables efficiency in the operator process, while simultaneously reducing lead-time to customer. The role has heavy project management fundamentals with strong technical ability to understand the system level interactions between hardware, software and firmware. You are expected to become an expert on the system functionality and the validation process that qualifies product prior to delivery.

  • Lead and participate in projects related to New Product Introduction (NPI) or Sustaining activities
  • Collaborate with the Design Engineering team, in the development of new systems processes as well as during complex troubleshooting scenarios as it relates to containments or yield related issues.
  • Hands-on development work to understand and stabilize the process being used to validate deliverable product.
  • Maintenance of manufacturing processes for WESCAM product, including Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP), Environmental Stress Screening – Thermal and Vibration.
  • Design requirements for tooling, test equipment and automation
  • Leadership and support of continuous improvement initiatives and projects using the following principles;
    • Design for Manufacturability, Safety and Ergonomics
    • Process Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
    • Lessons Learned and Waste Reduction using Six Sigma philosophy
  • Technical direction on system failures which may include; electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, optical.
  • Conduct 8D root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Reviewing change requests generated by Design Engineering and Production staff, implementing changes as required
  • Act as a back-up point of contact to the Manufacturing Engineers responsible for frontline support of a Cell Team
  • Support any other business priorities as required by Operations Engineering leadership
  • Business rationale behind capital expenditures, including return on investment.

  • Clear and concise technical communication, both written and verbal.
  • Engaged participant, capable of leading cross functional discussions with a high level of accountability of self and others.
  • Create and foster professional relationships in all areas of the business.
  • Coordinate multiple priorities with a strong comprehension of Project Management fundamentals.
  • In depth knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Must be well organized, goal oriented and provide high attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.
  • Read and understand Mechanical drawings and Electrical schematics.
  • Coaching and mentoring of other junior staff or peers by sharing knowledge, best practices and lessons learned
  • AS9100 knowledge and experience an asset, but not required.
  • C# or similar coding language and asset, but not required.

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Requires practical knowledge of job area with relevant work experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Systems Engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Must have a well-rounded engineering background with manufacturing engineering experience in a high tech environment.
  • LEAN Green Belt Certification or equivalent industry experience.
  • PMP designation an asset, but not required.
  • P.Eng designation an asset, but not required.

*This posting is for a current vacancy.  In the province of Ontario, Canada, the pay range for this position will be $75,000 to $99,000.
