Associate Ministry information

What is an associate ministry?

An Associate Ministry refers to a leadership position within a church or religious organization where an individual supports the senior pastor or ministry leader. The Associate Minister typically assists in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and administrative duties. They may also oversee specific programs, such as youth, outreach, or education ministries, depending on the needs of the congregation. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation and spiritual growth of the church community.

What are some common challenges faced by associate ministers in supporting a diverse congregation?

Associate Ministers often work with a wide range of individuals from various backgrounds, ages, and life experiences. A common challenge is balancing the needs of different ministry areas, such as youth, outreach, and pastoral care, while ensuring each group feels supported and heard. Effective communication, flexibility, and strong organizational skills are key to managing these demands. Additionally, Associate Ministers frequently collaborate with senior leadership and volunteers, requiring diplomacy and teamwork to implement church initiatives smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate minister, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Minister, you need a strong background in theology, pastoral care, and leadership, usually supported by a relevant degree and ministerial credentials. Familiarity with church management software, worship planning tools, and community outreach platforms is often required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, empathy, and effective communication are vital for building relationships and supporting congregational needs. These abilities are essential for fostering spiritual growth, managing church operations, and nurturing a vibrant church community.

JOIN OUR TEAM

Every guest, athlete, and team member who steps into AIA's spaces should feel welcomed, cared for, and supported. By leading the housekeeping team and maintaining excellent facility standards, you help create environments where ministry, training, and life change can thrive.

ABOUT YOU:

You're someone who takes pride in creating clean, welcoming spaces and understands how a well-kept environment supports meaningful work and hospitality. You enjoy leading by exampleโ€”jumping in when needed, encouraging others, and helping a team do its best work. You're organized, attentive to detail, and comfortable coordinating moving pieces across multiple facilities. You value excellence, consistency, and clear communication, and you're motivated by serving others in a way that reflects care and purpose. In this role, you'll bring your leadership, initiative, and heart for service to ensure AIA's facilities are ready for every guest, athlete, and staff member who walks through the door.

ABOUT US:

Athletes in Action is the sports ministry of Cru, and our vision is bold: to see Christ-followers on every team, in every sport, in every nation.

Our 250-acre athletic complex hosts local, regional, and international eventsโ€”including sports tournaments, summer camps, leadership gatherings, and banquets. Every event we host is an opportunity to serve well, create lasting memories, and impact lives for God's Kingdom.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Participate in the regular cleaning of AIA facilities to support housekeeping operations and stay aware of daily needs.
  • Coordinate with the Retreat Center Director and members of the SCRC to assess and meet housekeeping needs across all AIA spaces.
  • Lead, motivate, and support housekeeping associates through recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and developing team members.
  • Foster a positive, mission-aligned team culture and ensure staff are well-equipped to perform their work with excellence.
  • Ensure common areas remain clean, orderly, and presentable throughout the day.
  • Replenish bathroom supplies, toiletries, and linens to maintain fully stocked guest and staff spaces.
  • Order, pick up, and manage inventory of paper goods and cleaning supplies.
  • Observe and report safety hazards, facility concerns, or repair needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversee housekeeping associates in accordance with ministry policies and applicable laws, including:

  • Interviewing, hiring, and onboarding team members
  • Planning, assigning, and directing daily work
  • Providing performance feedback and conducting evaluations
  • Coaching, recognizing, and when needed, disciplining employees
  • Addressing concerns and guiding effective problem resolution

  • High School/GED; Preferred: Vocational/Technical training in Housekeeping
  • 3 years minimum experience in housekeeping and leading others, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
