Job description

What to Expect We are growing our Total Loss team at Tesla Insurance and seeking an Associate Manager who is energized by the opportunity to build from the ground up, drive innovation, and redefine how total loss claims are handled in the industry. This leadership role will guide a team of total loss adjusters while serving as both a people leader and a process architect. You won't just manage day-to-day operations-you'll shape the future state of total loss handling by challenging traditional approaches and improving speed, accuracy, transparency, and customer experience. If you're passionate about disrupting legacy insurance processes, leveraging Tesla's unique vehicle data, and building a high-performing team in a dynamic environment, this is your chance to make a lasting impact.
What You'll Do
  • Recruit, onboard, develop, and lead a high-performing team of 5-8 total loss adjusters, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability
  • Establish performance standards, conduct regular coaching, and develop future leaders within the team
  • Design, refine, and own total loss workflows, including valuation standards, quality controls, and documentation to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Identify inefficiencies in traditional total loss processes and implement scalable improvements, leveraging Tesla vehicle telematics, analytics, and data for better outcomes
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, Salvage, and Compliance teams to pilot innovations such as valuation automation, early total loss detection, digital customer communications, and salvage optimization
  • Define and track KPIs that measure both operational performance and progress toward innovative, future-state goals
  • Contribute to long-term strategy for total loss handling, act as a thought partner in redefining industry norms, and lead change management as new systems and automations are deployed

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of auto claims leadership experience, with deep expertise in total loss claims handling
  • Proven track record of leading teams, including recruitment, coaching, performance management, and building engagement in new or evolving environments
  • Strong knowledge of total loss valuation methodologies, salvage processes, state regulatory requirements, and settlement negotiations
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement, innovation, or transforming legacy workflows in insurance or related fields
  • Comfort thriving in ambiguity while building new structures, processes, and teams from the foundation up
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data, telematics, or analytics to inform decisions and drive results
  • Property and Casualty (P&C) adjuster's license in the state of domicile, plus non-resident adjuster's licenses in all other states where required-or the ability to obtain them within 60 days of starting
