Purpose: Responsible for executing on a broad range of non-investment grade financing transactions. Responsible for preparing client presentations and financial modeling. Work closely with the Analysts/Associate Directors to support the Directors/MDs in managing client relationships and supporting the needs of coverage bankers within industry groups. Provide ongoing training and coaching to Analysts. Contribute to the overall success of the team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You'll Do
  • Champion a client centric focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge to deliver solutions that Scotiabank can provide within the Non-Investment Grade Finance product suite, including high yield bonds and leveraged loans. Role will also include relationship management and cross collaboration such as:
    • Coordinating with other groups within GBM, such as banking coverage (both financial sponsor and industry coverage), credit / risk, underwriting / execution, and sales & trading
    • Developing and maintaining effective industry relationships with legal counsel, external parties, clients (in collaboration with senior coverage officers)
  • The day-to-day responsibilities include the following:
    • Evaluating and analyzing the debt financing needs of corporate and sponsor-backed clients
    • Tracking market conditions, with a focus on the leveraged credit markets, and driving the creation of client-friendly materials
    • Evaluating peer capital structures and financings executed in market to identify opportunities with Scotiabank clients
    • Oversee alongside an Analyst the underwriting and approval process for both corporate and sponsor-backed financings, with responsibility for transaction overviews, summarizing financing terms, cash flow modeling (cases with multiple drivers), evaluating syndication prospects,
    • Prepare questions and drive due diligence sessions to evaluate credit risk of proposed transactions, identifying key credit risks / mitigants and evaluating customary "quality of earnings" reports
    • Oversee transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
    • Review of financing documents, including commitment letters, fee letters, engagement letters, credit agreements and offering memoranda. Summarize key terms and covenants for purpose of reviewing transaction feasibility and distribution prospects. Lead dialogue with external counsel during drafting process.
    • Performing comprehensive financial statement analysis and creating and maintaining models, with a focus on LBO cash flow modeling
    • Drive the creation high-quality presentation materials to support client discussions around new business opportunities, including generating new content
    • Oversee the development of Analysts and junior talent across GBM as it relates to interfacing with Leveraged Finance
    • Applying product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives
  • Actively contribute to a high performance and inclusive work environment

What You'll Bring
  • 2-4 years' work experience in Leveraged Finance, preferably with lead-left execution and underwriting experience across both corporate and sponsor-backed issuers
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology
  • Experience with commitment letters, fee letters, engagement letters, credit agreements and offering memoranda
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of dynamics of institutional term loan and high yield markets in the US
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent command of industry standard market data sources, such as Credit Sights, LCD News, Bloomberg, and other sources
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts, build a platform, and enhance banking skillset
  • Obtain and maintain required FINRA registration and licensing appropriate to your functions and responsibilities
