Season: Fall
Purpose
  1. To instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, techniques, and physical conditioning necessary for success in football.
  2. To promote teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility, leadership, self-discipline, and character development through participation in athletics.

Summary
The Assistant Football Coach (Junior High) supports the junior high football program under the direction of the Head Football Coach and coaching staff. Responsibilities include assisting with practices, skill development, supervision of student-athletes, and helping establish a strong foundation for the football program. The coach ensures compliance with all school, conference, and MSHSL policies while representing St. James Public Schools and the community in a professional manner. The Assistant Football Coach reports directly to the Head Football Coach and High School Activities Director.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and conducting organized junior high football practices.
  • Teach football fundamentals, techniques, and team concepts appropriate for junior high athletes.
  • Support skill development and encourage participation in a positive environment.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect.
  • Foster positive relationships with student-athletes, families, and school staff.
  • Reinforce program expectations and team culture established by the Head Coach.
  • Ensure safety standards and proper football techniques are followed at all times.
  • Assist with equipment distribution, collection, and organization.
  • Model professionalism, integrity, and positive sportsmanship.
  • Encourage academic accountability and personal growth among student-athletes.
  • Communicate effectively with coaching staff and administration.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHSL, conference, and district policies.
  • Assist with additional program responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach or Activities Director.
