Job description

IMEG is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our electrical team in the Detroit area. In this role, you will lead the design efforts of control systems for projects related to chemical, water and wastewater treatment, general manufacturing, food and beverage, and petrochemical. These projects will be of various complexities, each presenting different challenges. Many large projects will require collaborating with senior staff from other disciplines, teams and consultants.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Meet with existing clients on a regular basis to discuss projects.
  • Be involved in training and mentoring of staff.
  • Market control engineering services to existing clients.
  • Lead the development and design of control systems.
  • Lead the troubleshooting of PLC and control devices in the field for new projects and existing customer systems.
  • Lead the commissioning and start-up of systems.

Required Skills:

  • Design and development of automated control systems including hardware, programming and operator interfaces.
  • Configuring, testing and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives, servo motors, instrumentation and control devices from various vendors.
  • Selecting Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O platforms.
  • Allen-Bradley PLC program development including ladder logic, function block diagram, structured text, sequential function chart, arrays, user defined datatypes and add-on instructions.
  • Designing and running FactoryTalk View SE, PanelView and other HMI and SCADA applications.
  • Installing and configuring SQL Server databases.
  • Developing Excel reports that utilize VBA, ODBC, OPC to derive data from a SQL database and other sources.
  • Design network architectures and server stacks.
  • Selecting and configuring Ethernet switches and routers including VLANs, STP, SNMP, DLR loops and other services or functions.
  • Commissioning servers including VM implementation and configuration, operating system installation, role configuration such as Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, RDS, Printer Sharing and others.
  • Commissioning and start-up of control systems.
  • Working with other parties to troubleshoot input and output field devices, field equipment, field wiring and other issues that arise during system commissioning.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD Electrical to design control panels including PLC based panels, remote I/O panels, power panels and HMI panels.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel (including VBA) and other Office applications.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the control systems automation and instrumentation consulting or construction industry

OR

  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Automation and Instrumentation, or Engineering preferred
  • 11 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the control systems automation and instrumentation consulting or construction industry

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms and grasp or pull.
  • Will have exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
  • Ability to work in industrial settings.
