Job description

The system engineer is responsible for participating in the planning, design, installation, monitoring and support of Microsoft Windows 2025 & 2022 servers, Linux/Unix Servers, storage systems and virtualization technologies including server hardware and server management tools. Administers standards, policies and procedures in accordance with corporate and customer objectives to improve system availability, reliability, recoverability, or manageability. Performs server/application maintenance and housekeeping. Performs other functions and assists team as necessary or at the direction of Infrastructure Management and/or other IT management.


What you will do:

  • Planning, design, installation, monitoring and support of Windows and Unix based server platforms, VMware/Hyper-V technologies, back-up/communications equipment and server management tools. Support network operating systems, applications and utility software.
  • Participate in all phases of storage engineering, including design, analysis and modeling at a highly technical level; analyze complex computer system requirements to provide integration and implementation support.
  • Troubleshoot, manage and maintenance of system performance. Monitor capacity versus utilization for hardware, system throughput and license and recommend appropriate actions on a timely basis to avoid performance degradation and/or oversubscription.
  • Ensure thorough implementation of IT general controls and security standards.
  • Administer standards, policies and procedures in accordance with corporate and business objectives to improve system availability, reliability, recoverability, or manageability. Develop start-up and shutdown procedures, search for/apply corrective patches to operating systems and application software and develop operational processes/configurations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Associate's Degree Or higher Degree - Preferred
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to prioritize and deal with many issues at one time. - Required
  • Demonstrated analysis skills to ensure that solutions solve business problems and appropriate technology is utilized. - Required
  • Ability to collaborate and consult with other technical or development teams on projects. - Required
  • Ability to learn new technologies, tools and applications related to job. - Required
  • Strong communication skills to relate to various levels of users and relate their needs to other personnel. Must be able to express technical idiom in an unambiguous manner. - Required
  • Design and administration of: server and client operating systems, active directory, storage systems, virtualization environment, monitoring/alerting and backup systems. - Required
  • Specific knowledge in Windows, Linux, HyperV, VMware, and backup platforms. - Required
  • Knowledge on NetApp/Pure Storage Platforms, NetBackup, Netscaler, and CheckPoint Firewalls desired. - Preferred
  • Microsoft, NetApp, Cisco and/or VMware certifications desired, but not mandatory. Upon Hire - Preferred

Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
