This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension based on funding and organizational needs. The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $77,000

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Global Health Department at the UN Foundation works to mobilize partnerships, resources, and political commitment in support of global health priorities, including global health security, pandemic preparedness and response, disease surveillance, health systems strengthening for outbreak readiness, and emerging health threats.

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Associate will support the implementation of the United Nations Foundation's work on pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, with a particular focus on the Pandemic Risk Assessment (PRA) initiative, and malaria advocacy, communications, and policy work. The position will contribute to research, writing, project management, stakeholder engagement, and convening activities in collaboration with governments, multilateral organizations, academic institutions, philanthropic partners, and civil society organizations.

The Senior Associate will play a key role in developing written products and communications materials; coordinating partnerships and stakeholder engagement; and supporting administrative and operational functions for workshops, expert consultations, strategy meetings, and other convenings.

This position is based in Washington, DC (hybrid schedule).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the implementation of the UN Foundation's Pandemic Risk Assessment initiative, malaria, and related global health initiatives
  • Conduct research and analysis on issues related to pandemic preparedness, pandemic risk assessment, infectious disease threats, malaria, and other global health priorities
  • Draft and edit a range of written products, including concept notes, briefing materials, reports, meeting summaries, presentations, blogs, talking points, donor updates, and other communications materials
  • Support the design and implementation of virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, and convenings, including participant outreach, agenda development, logistics coordination, meeting preparation, and follow-up activities
  • Coordinate planning groups, advisory groups, and other stakeholder forums, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, capturing action items, and tracking progress on deliverables
  • Support engagement with scientific experts, government representatives, multilateral organizations, philanthropic partners, and civil society organizations to advance project objectives
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of advocacy, communications, and partnership activities related to malaria and other global health priorities
  • Maintain effective working relationships with external partners and stakeholders and support coordination across collaborative initiatives and partnerships
  • Support grants, contracts, consultant agreements, reporting requirements, due diligence processes, and other administrative and operational functions
  • Track project timelines, deliverables, budgets, and stakeholder engagement activities to support effective project management and execution
  • Provide research, writing, and project management support to senior leadership and the Global Health team on priority initiatives:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, international affairs, or a related field, or commensurate professional experience required
  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in global health, international development, research, program management, policy, or a related field
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex scientific, technical, and policy issues into clear and compelling materials for a variety of audiences
  • Strong research skills and demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information from diverse sources
  • Demonstrated project management support function and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong administrative and operational skills, including experience supporting grants, contracts, consultants, budgets, reporting requirements, convenings, or related processes
  • Experience coordinating meetings, workshops, conferences, or stakeholder engagement activities
  • Experience developing written materials such as reports, briefing papers, presentations, talking points, meeting summaries, donor updates, and executive correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse partners; ability to operate collaboratively and communicate clearly, often under time pressure, and with discretion, tact, diplomacy, cultural sensitivity, and empathy

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Familiarity with global health issues required; familiarity with pandemic preparedness, infectious diseases, malaria, or related topics preferred
  • Familiarity with the global health ecosystem and experience engaging with key stakeholders involved in pandemic preparedness, infectious disease prevention and response, global health financing, or malaria, including organizations such as WHO, the Pandemic Fund, CEPI, Gavi, the Global Fund, CDC, and related partners, preferred
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Written skill assignment is part of the interview process
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The essential functions of this role will generally be performed in a typical professional office environment with routine use of standard office equipment. Employees are expected to work on-site in accordance with UNF’s hybrid work policy, which currently requires regular in-office presence.

LOCATION

While The United Nations Foundation headquarters is located in Washington, DC, you are on a hybrid work schedule. You are expected to commute to the office three (3) days per week and you may work from home two (2) days per week.
