Job Purpose
National Grid is seeking a talented and forward-thinking Engineer to join our Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) team in New York. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of the electric grid by supporting the integration of renewable energy resources and advancing New York's clean energy transition.In this role, you will serve as a technical leader for Distributed Generation (DG) interconnections, overseeing the evaluation, planning, and review of renewable energy projects such as solar, battery storage, and other distributed energy resources. As a subject matter expert, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance grid reliability, improve system resilience, and streamline interconnection processes for customers and developers.You'll have the opportunity to influence the modernization of the electric distribution system while ensuring compliance with New York State Standardized Interconnection Requirements (SIR). Your expertise will help drive process improvements, support the Company's clean energy commitments, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Key Accountabilities
  • System Planning & Asset Management: Assist in strategic direction for immediate and long-term planning of sub-transmission and distribution systems to enhance resilience and meet capacity requirements.
  • DER Customer Support: Aid in distributed generation studies quality control and ensure compliance for distributed generation interconnections, offering technical/guideline support to customer groups utilizing the New York State Interconnection Requirements(NYSSIR).
  • Reliability Performance: Track key performance metrics and enhance DG interconnection timelines and internal business processes to ensure efficient and optimal delivery of service to distributed generation customers.
  • Collaboration: Work with various National Grid departments, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Centers and Distribution Design, to support integration of distributed generation, depl
  • oyment of grid modernization, customer centric solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively identify and implement changes to enhance performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of engineering processes through potential system automation and software tools.
  • Problem Solving: Take responsibility for addressing issues promptly and effectively, while maintaining strong communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or degree in other STEM fields is required.
  • Licensure: Plans to obtain Engineer in Training (EIT) and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure are preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Experience: Distributed Generation Interconnections and prior Utility experience is highly desirable.
  • Other Requirements: Valid driver's license.

Salary: $91,000 - $106,000 per year
