Position Summary

The Electrical QA Technician/Specialist is responsible for ensuring all electrical construction work complies with project specifications, industry codes, client requirements, and company quality standards. The role supports inspections, documentation, testing, and verification of all electrical installations throughout construction phases to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Perform inspections of electrical installations including conduit, cable tray, grounding, wiring, terminations, panels, motors, VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, and instrumentation.
  • Verify compliance with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, NETA, IEEE, and project-specific standards.
  • Conduct walk-downs to ensure installation readiness for testing, energization, and turnover.
  • Review and validate contractor workmanship against approved drawings and specifications.
  • Identify non-conformances and issue NCRs; follow up on corrective actions.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate QA/QC documentation including inspection reports, test sheets, checklists, and turnover packages.
  • Review contractor redlines, as-built drawings, and electrical QC records.
  • Support development of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and QA procedures.
  • Assist with punch list development and clearance.

Testing & Verification

  • Witness or perform electrical tests such as:
  • Megger/insulation resistance testing
  • Continuity checks
  • Torque verification
  • Loop checks
  • Point-to-point wiring verification
  • Ground resistance testing
  • Panel and equipment pre-energization checks
  • Support energization and commissioning activities.

Coordination & Communication

  • Work closely with construction crews, supervisors, engineers, and project management.
  • Communicate quality expectations, findings, and corrective actions clearly.
  • Attend QA, safety, and project coordination meetings.
  • Support client audits and walkthroughs.

Safety

  • Ensure all inspections are completed in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Promote safe electrical work practices and report hazards immediately.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree preferred.
  • 5โ€“10 years of experience in industrial electrical construction, maintenance, or quality assurance.
  • Prior QA/QC experience in industrial sectors such as power plants, chemical plants, oil & gas, manufacturing, or heavy construction preferred.

Certifications(preferred but not required)_

  • OSHA 10/30
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license
  • NCCER Electrical or QA certification
  • NETA or NICET certification
  • ISO 9001 quality training

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and industrial electrical installation practices.
