Position Summary
GD Resources is seeking an experienced Authored Works Review Editor to review and manage written materials prepared for internal and public release by Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The Editor will help protect the organization’s credibility by ensuring that content is accurate, clear, properly sourced, professionally written, and compliant with applicable style, privacy, and Government requirements.
The position will manage written products through the complete editorial and approval process, coordinating with authors, medical and administrative subject-matter experts, legal reviewers, and public affairs leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, edit, and proofread articles, reports, web content, publications, news releases, leadership messages, speeches, and other communication products.
- Edit content for clarity, accuracy, organization, grammar, punctuation, tone, and readability.
- Ensure compliance with AP Style, command style guides, and applicable Department of Defense and Defense Health Agency requirements.
- Conduct fact-checking and verify sources, statistics, medical claims, names, titles, dates, and other critical information.
- Coordinate technical reviews with clinical, administrative, legal, and public affairs subject-matter experts.
- Manage editorial calendars, document status, deadlines, revisions, and approval workflows.
- Consolidate and reconcile comments from multiple reviewers.
- Maintain and enforce an organizational writing and editorial style guide.
- Prepare completed products for final review and approval before release.
- Ensure that HIPAA, PHI, privacy, and sensitive-information requirements are followed.
- Maintain organized records of drafts, edits, approvals, and final products.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, technical writing, or a related field.
- At least five years of professional editing, copyediting, technical-writing, or publications experience.
- Expert knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and AP Style.
- Demonstrated experience editing complex or technical information for varied audiences.
- Experience managing editorial calendars and multi-stage review processes.
- Strong research, fact-checking, source-verification, and document-management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required Government facility, CAC, network, and background-investigation access.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing medical research, healthcare communications, public policy, or military publications.
- Experience supporting a federal agency, military organization, hospital, or other regulated environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and PHI safeguards.
- Familiarity with federal document-accessibility requirements and executive-level correspondence.
Work Requirements
The position is primarily performed on-site, Monday through Friday. The Editor must be able to manage changing priorities, short deadlines, and urgent leadership requirements.
