Job description

Job Title: Director of Accounting

Location: Scottsdale, AZ | 100% On-Site

Compensation: Up to $200,000 base + 20% target bonus

The Kostelic Agency is exclusively partnered with a highly respected, operations-driven organization to hire a Director of Accounting in a critical leadership role reporting directly to the CEO.

This position is designed for a seasoned accounting leader who wants ownership, visibility, and influence — overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, tax, audits, internal controls, and systems while serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and IFRS
  • Oversee all internal and external compliance reporting, including regulatory filings, tax compliance, and audits
  • Design, implement, and maintain a strong internal control environment
  • Partner closely with FP&A leadership to deliver consolidated management reporting, including:
  • Full financial statements
  • KPI dashboards
  • Operational and trend analysis
  • Budget vs. actual variance analysis with executive-level commentary
  • Manage external audit relationships and tax compliance processes
  • Provide leadership across Corporate Accounting, AP, Billing, and Credit & Collections
  • Coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team with a focus on accountability, growth, and succession planning
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to improve financial processes and business outcomes

Process improvement & systems

  • Identify, implement, and optimize financial systems and accounting processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
  • Lead system upgrades and integration initiatives across financial and operational platforms
  • Continuously refine accounting policies, procedures, and controls to align with best practices and evolving business needs

Strategic advisory & business partnership

  • Partner with senior leadership to deliver data-driven insights that support strategic decision-making
  • Analyze business trends and recommend actions to optimize financial performance
  • Support special projects including mergers, acquisitions, and due diligence

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • CPA and/or MBA (preferred)
  • 8–10+ years of accounting and financial leadership experience
  • 5+ years at the Controller level or
  • 2+ years as a Director of Accounting
  • Strong technical accounting foundation (GAAP, IFRS, internal controls, close & reporting)
  • Proven process-improvement mindset and systems experience
  • Executive presence with the ability to operate as a trusted advisor
  • Experience managing complexity, ambiguity, and multiple priorities
  • Industry experience in logistics, shipping, stevedoring, or similar environments is a plus

Benefits & perks

  • Highly competitive compensation package
  • Strong bonus structure
  • Excellent benefits
  • Strong 401(k)
  • 100% in-office environment with direct leadership access
