Job description

Position Summary
The associate engineer will deploy and maintain data models and reports, develop and track fuel-savings initiatives, and support ad hoc requests across work groups. The ideal candidate has strong problem-solving abilities, a deep curiosity about learning new things, well-developed quantitative and interpersonal skills, and a passion for aviation. This role is truly cross-functional and will collaborate with various departments, including Flight Operations, Airports, Dispatch, Finance, and Sustainability, among others. The associate engineer will report to the Senior Manager, Operations and Fuel Engineering.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Brainstorm and quantify potential improvement opportunities with operational teams to drive lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions across all processes.
  • Assist with the project and/or change management required to drive technological and process improvements.
  • Produce reports and ensure the accuracy of reporting for various internal teams; create automated reports and dashboards using operational data.
  • Pursue continued improvements to fuel-consumption forecasts.
  • Assist with the development of business cases in support of corporate initiatives, including investment in next-gen technology, by forecasting benefits using various analytical and simulation tools.
  • Investigate and determine root causes of fuel-burn deviations.
  • Support JetBlue's operational-reliability strategy.
  • Contribute to ad hoc operability-related projects in support of senior leadership.
  • Build relationships with operational partners across the system.
  • Support other teams, including all operational divisions, Enterprise Planning, and Finance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, operational research, aerospace or mechanical engineering, statistics, or a related field; OR a demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
  • One (1) year of analytical experience with proven ability to analyze, compare, evaluate, reconcile, and present findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in database querying (e.g., SQL) and/or high-level programming language(s) (such as Python or R).
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Have a positive, "can-do" attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication ability.
  • Effective time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Consider problems from different perspectives to understand the full picture.
  • Available for occasional overnight travel and on-site visits (10%).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Authorization to work in the US is required; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of work experience in aviation, finance, management consulting, or a related field
  • One (1) year of work experience at an airline in Operations Planning, Performance Engineering, Network Planning, Revenue Management, or Finance
  • Experience communicating with and presenting to senior leadership

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Compensation
  • The base pay range for this position is between $70,000.00 and $104,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
