As of Jun 27, 2026, the average yearly pay for associate dentist parttime in the United States is $141,209.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $42,000.00 and $212,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can I work a part-time job while in dental school?

Associate dentists typically work full-time, but dental students often take part-time jobs or internships related to their field to gain experience. Balancing work and studies requires good time management and adherence to any licensing or educational requirements.

Can a general dentist make $500,000 a year if I own my own business?

A general dentist who owns their own practice can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually, especially with a high patient volume, efficient practice management, and specialized services. However, income varies based on location, practice size, overhead costs, and experience, and reaching this level typically requires strong business skills and a well-established patient base.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Dentist (Part-time), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Dentist (Part-time), you need a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, a valid state dental license, and strong clinical skills in diagnosing and treating oral health issues. Familiarity with dental practice management software, digital radiography, and sterilization protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and patient empathy help you build trust and deliver quality care in a limited timeframe. These skills ensure effective, safe, and patient-centered dental services even on a part-time schedule.

What are the typical responsibilities and team interactions for an Associate Dentist working part-time?

As a part-time Associate Dentist, you will typically handle patient examinations, diagnose dental conditions, and perform treatments such as fillings, extractions, and preventive care. You’ll collaborate closely with dental hygienists, assistants, and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care. Effective communication within the team is essential, especially when coordinating treatment plans or follow-up care. You may also be responsible for maintaining accurate patient records and occasionally participating in team meetings, even on a part-time schedule.

What percentage do associate dentists make?

Associate dentists typically earn between 20% and 30% of the practice’s revenue, with the percentage often increasing based on experience, location, and the practice's size. Compensation can also include base salaries, production bonuses, or a combination of these structures. Overall, their earnings depend on factors such as patient volume, procedures performed, and contractual agreements.

What are Associate Dentist Parttime jobs?

Associate Dentist Parttime jobs are dental positions where a dentist works for a dental practice or clinic on a part-time basis, rather than as a full-time employee or practice owner. These roles allow dentists to provide patient care, perform dental procedures, and support the practice without the administrative responsibilities of ownership. Part-time associate dentists often enjoy flexible schedules, making this position suitable for those balancing multiple commitments or transitioning in their careers.

What is the 2 year rule for dentists?

The 2 year rule for dentists typically refers to the requirement that foreign-trained dentists must work in an approved setting for at least two years to qualify for licensure or to meet certain credentialing standards. This period often involves supervised practice, additional exams, or certification to demonstrate competency before practicing independently as an associate dentist.
