About the Role:

Walmart’s Catalog organization is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java backend development to help build and scale critical services for our e-commerce platform. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining highly available, scalable microservices that power Walmart’s vast product catalog and associated services.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and implement backend services and APIs using Java, Spring, and Kafka
  • Build and maintain distributed, event-driven systems supporting millions of daily transactions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture and ensure alignment with business goals
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines and streaming services using Kafka and potentially Spark
  • Ensure code quality through rigorous testing, CI/CD processes, and code reviews
  • Participate in performance tuning and troubleshooting of distributed systems
  • Work with Kubernetes and GitHub for deployment automation and source control management

Must-Have Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in Java (8+) and Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC)
  • Experience with Apache Kafka for building streaming and event-driven systems
  • Hands-on experience with Cassandra or other NoSQL databases
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful APIs
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub workflows
  • Familiarity with container orchestration using Kubernetes

Good to Have:

  • Experience with Apache Spark for real-time data processing
  • Knowledge of performance services and tuning distributed systems
  • Experience with additional NoSQL databases
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
