Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is seeking a Software Developer - Level 3/4 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA.
*Please be aware that this position is contingent upon capturing program award(s) and obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding. Furthermore, this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
As a Software Developer, you will have experience in software engineering and development across the full software life cycle and experience working with DevSecOps processes and cloud platforms. You will design, develop, document, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain applications software for Ground Segment Functions for the iC2 system, supporting the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission. You will have strong verbal and written communication skills and will be expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment. You will be highly self-motivated, reporting information to leads and the customer. You will be expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, finding unique solutions and working in a very collaborative and fast-paced environment that continues to grow.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develop software using modern web development frameworks/libraries, such as: Angular, React, Vue.js, or similar.
  • Implement applications software using server-side program languages in Python, C++, Node.js, and Go in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Design, develop, and govern high-performance services (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and enterprise-level asynchronous messaging (NATS, ActiveMQ) for satellite ground software solutions.
  • Utilize Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards, Confluence knowledge bases, eazyBI reports, custom JQL queries.
  • Execute program tasking and software development using Agile methodologies, cloud platforms, SQL or NoSQL database systems, scalable database schemas and optimized queries.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration, enabling timely development and deployment of satellite ground software solutions.
  • Own development and execution of features for satellite ground systems domain, with familiarity in reading CAMEO/MBSE models.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Software Developer - Level 3: 5 years of software development experience with Bachelor's degree; 3 years of stated experience with Master's degree; 1 year of stated experience with PhD; an additional 4 years of stated experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Software Developer - Level 4: 8 years of software development experience with Bachelor's degree; 6 years of stated experience with Master's degree; 4 years of stated experience with PhD; an additional 4 years of stated experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Candidate must have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI clearance within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate's maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
  • Strong proficiency in modern web development frameworks and libraries such as Angular, React, Vue.js, or similar, with proven success in delivering robust applications
  • Extensive experience developing applications on Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more server-side languages, including Python, C++, Node.js, Go, or Java; with a track record of developing scalable backend solutions
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, or gRPC services
  • Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems (e.g., NATS, ActiveMQ, etc.)
  • Solid background with SQL or NoSQL database systems to build and maintain data-driven applications
  • Proficient in Agile principles, and the effective use of Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, as well as familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
  • Ability to design scalable database schemas and write optimized queries
  • Competence in reading and interpreting CAMEO/MBSE models
  • Previous experience developing Command and Control software for Satellite Ground Systems
  • Experience working within a DevOps pipeline
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
