Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through Suffolkโs Beacon program and on-campus early college classes. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Suffolk enrolls thousands of students in English Language Learning courses, and also serves more Veterans than any other college in the SUNY system.
Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (12-month) Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs position beginning immediately on the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.
Job DescriptionThe Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs is the chief student affairs officer of the campus. In that role the Associate Dean serves as an advocate for the needs of students on the campus. The Associate Deanโs primary responsibility is to assure the most effective and efficient delivery of services in accordance with institutional goals, college policies, and professional standards. This position will report to the Campus Executive Dean.
- This position provides overall leadership and coordination for the Michael J. Grant Campus Office of Student Affairs, including the following: Admissions; Advising and Testing; Campus Activities and Student Leadership Development; Career Services; Childrenโs Learning Center; Counseling Center; Disability Services; Financial Aid; Health Services; and Registrar.
- Coordinates all the activities of the Michael J. Grant Campus Office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, including the tuition refund appeal process,student complaint procedure, medical withdrawal process, and response to student questions, concerns and problems.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Student Affairs in the development, implementation and assessment of policies and procedures related to student issues.
- Serves as a member of the Michael J. Grant Campus Executive Deanโs leadership and management team.
- Collaborates with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs administrators and faculty to develop effective recruitment and retention strategies.
- Coordinates the campus student affairs overload and adjunct assignments.
- Administers the Student Code of Conduct and Student Conduct Process and theInvoluntary Leave of Absence for Student Policy. Serves as campus Deputy Title IX Coordinator and addresses all campus Title IX cases.
- In conjunction with the Michael J. Grant Campus Budget committee, prepares, submits, and administers the campus Student Association budgets.
- Serves as a member of the College Association Advisory Committee along with the Finance Committee, Child Care Committee, and Student Life committee.
- Oversees all Association budget expenditures and ensures that all Association policies and procedures are followed by campus departments.
- In collaboration with the College CARE Team, assists in identifying, assessing, and referring students experiencing academic, behavioral, mental health, or personal challenges, promoting student well-being, persistence, and overall success.
- Manages the human resources within the campus Office of Student Affairs, including the coordination of the recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of all faculty, administrators and support staff in the campus Office of Student Affairs.
- Coordinates the faculty and administrative evaluation process as it relates to term and continuing appointments, promotions, and tenured faculty reviews.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Student Affairs to ensure that campus search procedures comply with college policy.
- Provides leadership in the development of assessment activities and monitors the application of assessment feedback in conjunction with the Vice President for Student Affairs.
- Coordinates campus compliance with government regulations impacting on students (e.g. privacy law, Title VI, Campus Security Act, Americans with Disabilities Act).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Masterโs degree in student personnel, student development, counseling or related area and substantial progressively increasing prior college administrative experience in student affairs.Experience executing college judicial processes. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
PreferredPh.D. or Ed.D. preferred. Experience at the community college is preferred.
HIRING SALARYThis is a 12-month Guild (Unit 4) position, and, as such, the salary and benefits for this position are determined according to the salary and benefits plan for the Guild of Administrative Officers.
