The Boeing Company Integrated Vehicle Systems team is looking to hire a Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer  to join the Advanced Aeromechanical Control Effector Systems (AACES) Lab team in St Louis, MO.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Associate, and Mid-Level Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineers.

The selected mechanical systems design & analysis engineer will support the development and demonstration of advanced actuators and adaptive structures for flight control, aerodynamic reconfigurability, actuated wind tunnel models, non-pyrotechnic release mechanisms, utility actuation and space thermal control systems. These novel actuation and adaptive structure systems highly leverage smart materials including shape memory alloys. The selected candidate will regularly perform and support requirement-based engineering design cycles to design, fabricate and assemble mechanical and actuation systems for prototype bench, wind-tunnel and flight test demonstrations Most of this work will be performed in the AACES laboratory and therefore requires experience working in laboratory environments. Experience in rapid prototyping and the ability to plan and run experiments, acquire data and write reports are essential for this position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform and support requirement-based engineering design cycles to design, fabricate and assemble mechanical and actuation systems for prototype bench, wind-tunnel and flight test demonstrations
  • Laboratory operations including safety, maintenance, planning and running experiments, acquiring data and writing reports. 
  • Coordinating with machine shops, other test labs and suppliers for fabrication and procurement of parts.
  • Assist in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 2+ years of experience in Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment and/or electronic test and troubleshooting
  • 2+ years of experience working with MATLAB and LabVIEW
  • 2+ years of experience working with Catia V5 or equivalent CAD/CAM software

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, i.e., Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace engineering with research experience
  • 2+ years of experience with smart materials, adaptive structures, aerodynamic testing, mechanical testing and/or material characterization is highly desirable, but not required
  • 2+ experience in actuation, data acquisition and controls engineering
  • General knowledge of other closely related cross functional engineer disciplines, including, controls, software and electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and control hardware including National Instruments, Microcontrollers and Raspberry Pi like devices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and leaders

Travel:

Position may require travel up to 10% of the time.

Summary Pay Range for Associate Level (Level 2): $85,000 - $115,000
