Schochet is currently accepting resumes for an Experienced Controller at
our corporate office in Braintree, MA.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee our accounting department and help maximize the financial performance of the company for investors and owners. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial management.
Duties include but not limited to;
  • Lead and manage the Accounting Department, including:
  • Conducting staff meetings
  • Performing monthly financial reviews (budget management, cash flow, general ledger accuracy)
  • Supporting individual performance development
  • Recruit, train, and develop accounting staff as needed
  • Review monthly financial reports for accuracy, with a focus on preparing properties for investor reporting packages and year end audits
  • Respond to IRS and Department of Revenue inquiries
  • Provide investors with monthly and annual documentation, respond to inquiries, and manage auditors
  • Monitor and recommend improvements to internal control policies and procedures
  • Ensure all annual filings, including gross profit statements, are completed and in good standing
  • Collaborate with auditors to prepare financial statements and tax returns
  • Annual Budget Process: Lead analysis and development of annual budgets
  • Yardi Implementation: Oversee and manage initiatives related to Yardi property management software, ensuring effectiveness and continuous improvement
  • Onboarding and set up of property acquisitions
  • This position 5 day in person, on site

Supervision
  • Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Supervises accounting staff and account payable staff
  • Works closely with leadership, with significant decisions reviewed regularly with the Chief Financial Officer

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (required)
  • Master's Degree in Accounting or related field (preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience in a senior-level accounting role in the Public accounting and/or affordable housing industry experience (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software (experience with Yardi strongly preferred)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Strong communication skills for working with investors, auditors, and internal teams
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. High level of accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
