Job description

Associate Faculty – Graduate Counseling Program (Virtual/Asynchronous)

JOB SUMMARY:

An Associate Faculty member in the Graduate Counseling Program is a part-time faculty member hired to teach specific graduate-level counseling course(s) in a fully online, asynchronous format during an academic eight-week term. There are also some courses that offer a weekly synchronous component that might be available during certain eight-week term periods.

The Associate Faculty member’s primary responsibility is to facilitate student learning aligned with program learning outcomes, professional counseling competencies, and CACREP standards. Faculty are expected to foster counselor professional identity, ethical practice, multicultural competence, and evidence-based clinical skills within the virtual learning environment.

The Associate Faculty member’s minimum obligation is to fulfill the instructional and engagement requirements of each assigned course and comply with University policies, programmatic expectations, and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions:

Under the Direction of the Program Chair:

Facilitate Virtual Asynchronous Instruction:

· Teach assigned graduate counseling courses in accordance with approved syllabi, learning outcomes, and CACREP-aligned competencies.

· Facilitate weekly asynchronous discussions, learning activities, and applied clinical assignments.

· Provide substantive, developmentally appropriate feedback that supports students’ professional growth as counselors.

· Maintain consistent and meaningful online presence in the learning management system (Blackboard).

· Provide weekly synchronous meetings if required by the course.

Promote Professional Counseling Identity:

· Integrate ethical standards, multicultural responsiveness, and counselor professional identity into instruction.

· Model professional dispositions consistent with counseling practice.

· Reinforce alignment with national counseling standards and licensure expectations.

Classroom Management (Virtual Environment):

· Adhere to all University policies and guidelines related to academic integrity, student engagement, and course conduct.

· Serve as the primary point of contact for students within the course.

· Collaborate with the Program Chair to address student concerns, academic performance issues, or professional disposition matters.

Evaluate Student Performance:

· Assess student work using approved rubrics and course deliverables.

· Provide timely, constructive, and clinically relevant feedback.

· Post interim grades in Blackboard Grade Center.

· Submit final grades in accordance with University deadlines.

Adhere to Course and Engagement Guidelines:

· Actively participate in and facilitate discussion boards and other asynchronous or synchronous engagement activities as required.

· Maintain high-touch communication consistent with graduate counseling program expectations.

· Participate in required faculty meetings, training, and programmatic assessment activities as assigned.

Timely Grade Submission:

· Submit grades for assignments, discussions, and examinations within established turnaround times.

· Ensure accuracy and timely posting of final course grades.

· Participate in end-of-course “close the loop” meetings with Academic Program Management (APM), if required.

Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:

The requirements below outline the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Qualifications:

· Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision

· Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program or have taught full-time in a CACREP program for a minimum of one year prior to 2013.

· Active, professional counseling license (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LCPC)

· Experience teaching graduate-level counseling courses (particularly in online/asynchronous formats)

· Experience with clinical supervision (if teaching practicum or internship courses)

· Familiarity with CACREP standards and accreditation processes

Additional Requirements:

· Official college transcripts on file prior to employment

· Completion of required University faculty training prior to first teaching assignment

· Demonstrated competence in online instructional technologies and learning management systems (Blackboard Ultra)
