About Your Role:

A successful Staff Backend Software Engineer at Clover drives the development of real-time merchant insights that power everyday decisions for small businesses. In this role, you will lead with technical rigor, support your team's growth, and deliver data-backed products that are as scalable as they are impactful.

The Merchant Insights Engineering team at Clover builds scalable, full-stack applications that deliver data-driven intelligence directly to our merchants-helping them better understand their business operations. This cross-functional team touches everything from data pipelines to web and mobile interfaces, working across Clover's ecosystem of hardware and software to turn raw data into actionable business strategy.

What You'll Do:

  • Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of 6-8 engineers across data, server, web, and Android technologies.
  • Strategy: Set the roadmap and strategy for Clover's merchant-facing insights and analytics platform.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Product, Design, Data Engineering, and Data Science to deliver near real-time insights at scale.
  • Engineering Excellence: Drive excellence through coaching, feedback, process improvement, and system design.
  • Project Execution: Guide end-to-end project execution-ensuring delivery, quality, and cross-team coordination.
  • Operational Ownership: Own incident response and blameless postmortems for the team's products.

Experience You'll Need to Have:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Software Engineering: 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • Technical Leadership: 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Java Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
  • Database Fundamentals: 1+ years of experience with RDBMS (MySQL or similar relational databases) and hands-on experience with SQL and data warehousing.
  • Agile Proficiency: Experienced in the day-to-day practicalities of Software Development Lifecycles, specifically Scrum.

Experience That Would Be Great to Have:

  • API Design: 6+ years of experience with REST API design.
  • Microservices: Proven experience with microservices architecture, preferably using Spring Boot.
  • Data & Analytics: Deep understanding of databases (MySQL and Snowflake preferred) and data warehouse experience.
  • Advanced SQL: Experience writing efficient SQL queries including multi-table joins and experience with JDBC.
  • Cloud & DevOps: Experience with a cloud platform (preferably Google Cloud Platform) alongside Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Scripting & Math: Python scripting experience and a background in data analysis, reporting, or mathematics.

  • This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.

Salary Range

$160,000.00 - $240,000.00

These pay ranges apply to employees in Sunnyvale, California. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
