What does an associate audio engineer do?

An Associate Audio Engineer assists in the recording, mixing, and editing of audio for various media, such as music, film, television, or live events. They typically support senior engineers by setting up equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring sound quality meets project standards. Responsibilities may also include working with digital audio workstations (DAWs), maintaining studio gear, and collaborating with producers or artists. This entry-level position is a great way to gain hands-on experience and learn from more experienced professionals in the audio engineering field.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an associate audio engineer?

To thrive as an Associate Audio Engineer, you need a solid understanding of audio signal flow, recording techniques, and sound editing, often backed by a degree or certification in audio engineering or a related field. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and audio hardware is essential, as well as knowledge of industry-standard plugins and interfaces. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with producers, artists, and other engineers. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality audio production, efficient workflow, and successful project outcomes in a competitive industry.

Job description

CTI has been a leading audio-visual provider for over 38 years. Since we began in 1988, our mission has been simple: to provide a fantastic customer experience.

We are looking for an Audio Video Field Specialist for our New Jersey branch, located in Piscataway, NJ, whose attitude, skills, and work ethic will embody our mission “to provide a fantastic customer experience”. Someone who is passionate about audio-visual technology. We take pride in our employees, who are known in the industry as customer-focused problem-solvers who can get the job done. This is not an entry-level position; we are seeking someone with at least 4 years of experience with commercial audio-visual integration installations, commissioning, and services.
What are your responsibilities?

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure all systems are operating at optimum levels
  • Work with Programmers as needed to load updated files

  • Train end users on how to operate their AV solutions and do final product walk-throughs.
  • Lead/Assist with installations across multiple job sites.
  • Travel required, estimated 40% overnight travel - company paid.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Will you fit in?

  • Our employees fearlessly embrace the company culture, and applicants who merely want to punch in their timecards every day are not what we are looking for.
  • You can work independently with minimal guidance, but aren’t afraid to ask the right questions when you need help.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills and can be the face of our company to our clients.

Does experience count?

  • AV/IT Networking: Knowledge of the commercial audio-visual integration industry is a must! At least 4 years of experience with commercial integration audio-visual installations, commissioning, and service is required.

  • Customer Service Experience: A must! As you can see, our customers are #1, and we need someone who can take care of them and treat them as such.
  • Attitude and Aptitude: Are key! We need someone who is eager to learn and comes to work ready to tackle any situation.

What’s in it for you?
At CTI, we know our company’s success is directly correlated to the success of our employees. So it’s fitting that we thrive on and encourage employee growth, both professionally and personally.

Our competitive compensation package includes:

  • A competitive base salary of $75k-$100k+/yr (DOE).
  • Employer-matched medical and dental insurance (available after 60 days of employment).

  • Special gifts for significant life events, such as marriage, childbirth, and house buying.
  • Cell phone reimbursement plan.
  • Long-Term and Short-Term Disability 100% paid by CTI.
