Job description

Step into an impactful role as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a school-based contract position close to Lithonia, GA. In this full-time opportunity, you’ll empower students with visual impairments to succeed both academically and personally by adapting the learning experience to their unique needs. As an essential member of the educational team, your expertise will help foster independence and confidence for students who need your guidance most.

Key Qualifications:

  • Possession of an active Georgia Teacher for the Visually Impaired (GA TVI) license (required)
  • Prior experience working as a Visually Impaired Teacher in school settings preferred
  • Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional materials
  • Ability to assess students' visual needs and implement individualized learning strategies
  • Strong collaboration skills to work alongside families, educators, and support staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging instruction tailored to students with visual impairments
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Teach Braille reading and writing, as well as orientation and mobility skills
  • Modify curriculum materials and create accessible resources using assistive technology
  • Act as a resource to staff and parents, providing training and support on best practices for visually impaired students
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed
