What is an assisted living manager?

An Assisted Living Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the daily operations of assisted living facilities, which provide care and support to elderly residents who need assistance with daily activities but do not require full-time medical care. They manage staff, ensure compliance with regulations, handle budgets, and work to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for residents. Assisted Living Managers also coordinate resident care plans, communicate with families, and address any issues or concerns regarding residents’ well-being.

What does an assisted living manager do?

An assisted living manager oversees operations at a residential care facility. Your duties include managing the building, employees, and services. You also handle issues related to compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You create policies and practices that ensure proper resident care. As a manager, you also hire, oversee, and schedule staff. As the manager, you make final decisions about services, employees, and building maintenance. The responsibilities of an assisted living manager include creating a budget and monitoring expenses. In some facilities, you may oversee a specific operational area.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assisted living manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assisted Living Manager, you need expertise in healthcare administration, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a degree in healthcare management or a related field. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, scheduling software, and state licensing requirements is essential. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help build trust with residents, families, and staff. These competencies ensure the facility operates smoothly, maintains high-quality care, and complies with all regulations for resident safety and satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by assisted living managers, and how can they be addressed?

Assisted Living Managers often face challenges such as balancing resident care needs with regulatory compliance, managing staff schedules, and responding to family concerns. Successfully addressing these challenges requires strong communication skills, effective delegation, and a commitment to ongoing staff training. Building a supportive team culture and staying up-to-date with industry best practices can help managers create a safe, welcoming environment for residents and staff alike.

About Integrated Real Estate Group (IREG)

Innovation Through Integration.

Integrated Real Estate Group (IREG) is a vertically integrated real estate company with more than 1,200 employees across 46+ communities - and growing.

For over 20 years, we’ve developed and operated multifamily and senior living communities across Texas and Oklahoma, delivering more than 15,000 units and $2 billion in total development.

What sets IREG apart is our integrated approach, bringing together development, construction, and operations to create high-performing communities across affordable housing, workforce housing, and market-rate living, including multifamily, active adult, independent living, assisted living, and memory care.

At IREG, innovation isn’t just what we build - it’s how we operate, grow, and develop our people.

We build communities and develop the people who lead them.

Lead the clinical care experience that residents and families depend on every day.

We’re looking for a compassionate and operationally strong Director of Health Services to oversee nursing and wellness services within our Assisted Living community - ensuring residents receive exceptional care while leading and developing a high-performing clinical team.

This role is ideal for a hands-on nursing leader who thrives in senior living, values resident relationships, and can balance clinical excellence with team leadership and operational accountability.

About the Opportunity

As the Director of Health Services, you will oversee the daily clinical operations of the community, including resident assessments, medication management, care planning, staffing, compliance, and team development.

You’ll partner closely with community leadership, residents, families, physicians, and outside healthcare providers to ensure residents receive high-quality, dignified care in a safe and supportive environment.

This role plays a critical leadership function within the community and directly impacts resident wellness, family satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and overall care quality.

What You’ll Own
  • Lead and oversee all nursing and supportive care services within the Assisted Living community
  • Ensure residents receive compassionate, resident-centered care that promotes dignity, safety, and overall wellness
  • Conduct and oversee resident assessments, service plans, and ongoing wellness monitoring
  • Monitor resident condition changes and ensure appropriate interventions, communication, and documentation
  • Oversee medication management processes, physician orders, treatments, and clinical documentation
  • Recruit, train, coach, supervise, and develop nursing and care staff
  • Build staffing schedules and maintain appropriate clinical coverage to meet resident and regulatory needs
  • Coordinate resident care conferences with families, physicians, and healthcare providers
  • Maintain compliance with all state regulations, OSHA standards, company policies, and clinical best practices
  • Develop systems and processes that support quality care, operational efficiency, and positive resident outcomes
  • Manage clinical supplies, healthcare inventory, and departmental purchasing within budget guidelines
  • Support move-ins, resident transitions, and family communication throughout the resident journey

What Success Looks Like
  • Residents receive high-quality care in a safe, supportive, and respectful environment
  • Clinical documentation, medication management, and compliance standards are consistently maintained
  • Nursing and care teams are properly staffed, trained, and engaged
  • Families feel informed, supported, and confident in the care being provided
  • Resident care concerns are addressed proactively and professionally
  • The community maintains strong survey readiness and operational compliance

Who This Role Is For
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with a current Texas license in good standing REQUIRED
  • Minimum of 2 years of geriatric nursing experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing leadership, supervisory, or healthcare management experience required
  • Senior living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, or long-term care experience strongly preferred
  • Experience leading and developing direct care staff in a healthcare environment
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and medication management experience
  • Strong systems, staffing, and process management skills
  • Comfortable utilizing technology systems daily to manage resident care, medications, and clinical tracking
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, leadership, and team members

What Sets You Apart
  • You lead with empathy, accountability, and professionalism
  • You stay calm and solution-focused in fast-paced situations
  • You build trust quickly with residents, families, and staff
  • You combine strong clinical judgment with operational organization
  • You are passionate about serving seniors and developing strong care teams

Compensation & Benefits

At IREG, we invest in our people, because strong leaders build strong communities.

Full-Time Employees receive:

  • Competitive salary with growth potential
  • Paid Holidays available upon hire
  • ZayZoon Access available immediately - access up to 50% of your earned wages on demand
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) eligibility after 90 days to support work-life balance

  • Life Insurance, Disability, and Financial Protection Plans (Critical Illness, Accident Coverage, Legal & ID Theft Protection)
  • Education Assistance to support your long-term career growth
  • Employee & Resident Referral Bonuses

We’re committed to providing stability, growth, and meaningful benefits that support your career and your life.
