CNA is seeking an Accounting Consultant to join the Financial Control team. The Financial Control team within the Corporate Finance Department is comprised of risk management experts who collaborate with business leaders to establish and manage internal controls over financial reporting while educating the company on financial risk. We consult, advise, and provide governance for the control activities of the Company.
This role will have broad exposure to the organization and develop a deep understanding of their supported business areas to ensure key business activities, initiatives, and processes are effectively controlled.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with a strong analytical mindset and a high degree of accountability for maintaining an effective financial control environment. This individual will partner across the organization to support SOX compliance, strengthen internal controls, identify and mitigate risk, and drive continuous process improvement. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, sound professional judgment, and a passion for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of financial processes and controls.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business partners on financial control requirements, risk mitigation, and control design.
  • Independently assess control gaps, deficiencies, and emerging risks, including root cause analysis, impact assessment, and recommended remediation plans.
  • Partner with process owners to design practical, sustainable controls that keep pace with business changes, system implementations, and evolving risk.
  • Lead coordination with CNA's external auditors.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, or improve financial controls and related processes.
  • Lead special projects, risk assessments, and cross-functional initiatives requiring strong judgment, organization, and communication.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Expertise and experience with SOX responsibilities, internal control frameworks and audit methodologies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, Statutory and other complex accounting principles including technical expertise in multiple functional areas; experience in Insurance industry preferred.
  • Proven communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to work effectively among all levels of internal/external business partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and lead in a fast-paced dynamic workforce
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems; experience in Optro preferred.
  • Ability to lead and develop staff members and drive a culture of learning and development.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or business, or equivalent; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of accounting, finance, or risk management experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
