Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties required to provide support for providers in all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse within a defined scope of care.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant Program.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) months' experience as a Medical Assistant.
Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA policies and procedures.
  2. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing schedules.
  3. Good organization skills.
  4. Good verbal communication skills.
  5. Good computer skills including the use of word processing and e-mail software.

Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.
License(s)/Certification(s) Required:
  1. Certificate from Medical Assistant Training program.
  2. CPR Certification.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
  1. Performs patient intake (i.e., blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, respirations, weights and measurements) on patients for medical examination.
  2. Perform tests (i.e., pulse oximetry, vision tests, hearing screens and EKGs).
  3. Gives medications/immunizations as ordered per route (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and subdermal).
  4. Notifies Clinic Nurse Coordinator and Provider of abnormal vital signs, blood glucose, or EKG results.
  5. Prepares, maintains exam rooms assuring that they are cleaned and stocked; performs sterilization of instruments.
  6. Assists urgent care patients by monitoring vital signs and assisting with transportation to another department or facility.
  7. Responsible for general office procedures (i.e., nebulizer treatments).
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:
  1. Assist with primary care appointments.
  2. Assist with orientation and training of new Nurses, Medical Assistants, students, and volunteers.
