Job description

We are hiring an experienced Injection Mold Set-Up Technician for a high-precision manufacturing facility in Buffalo Grove, IL. This direct-hire position is ideal for technicians with hands-on injection molding experience who can perform mold changes, set-ups, processing adjustments, and troubleshooting in an automated production environment.

The facility produces small, tight-tolerance plastic components and operates modern molding equipment, robotics, and automated inspection systems. Candidates must have at least 2 years of injection molding or mold setup experience.

Job Overview

The Injection Mold Set-Up Technician is responsible for performing mold installations, machine start-ups, processing checks, and in-process adjustments for night-shift production. This role works with injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, automated take-out robots, and quality inspection tools while maintaining consistent part quality and machine performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform mold set-ups, mold changes, color changes, and machine start-ups

• Operate and adjust injection molding machines in a precision-driven environment

• Work with automation equipment including robotic take-out systems (5-axis and 6-axis)

• Conduct in-process and final quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and vision systems

• Troubleshoot molding issues such as shorts, flash, splay, color variation, or dimensional defects

• Perform basic preventive maintenance on molds and auxiliary equipment

• Document production activity in SAP or similar manufacturing systems

• Follow all safety, cleanroom, and quality procedures

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of injection molding experience

• Experience performing mold changes, set-ups, or processing adjustments

• Strong mechanical aptitude with problem-solving skills

• Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for 12-hour shifts

• Ability to read and use inspection tools such as micrometers and calipers

• Basic math and computer literacy

• High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in medical molding, precision plastics, or cleanroom environments

• Experience with automated take-out robots or in-mold sensors

• SAP or TMS system experience

• Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S
