Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Location: Long Grove, Illinois

Company: Alden Long Grove Rehabilitation and Health Care Center

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our team at Alden Long Grove Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. As a key member of our leadership team, the ADON will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of our Nursing Department.

Job Summary:

The ADON is responsible for ensuring the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times, while also supervising and instructing our nursing staff to promote job knowledge and provide exceptional care to our residents. The ideal candidate will possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois and/or Wisconsin, with a minimum of one year nursing service administration experience.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Nursing Department to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
• Supervise and instruct nursing staff to promote job knowledge and provide exceptional care to residents.
• Identify problems, develop, and implement solutions with the assistance of the Administration.
• Develop a nursing/rehab/restorative philosophy that promotes quality nursing, rehab, restorative care for each resident.
• Ensure adequate staff on all shifts and maintain a sufficient number of nursing personnel to meet the needs of our customers.
• Audit charts and EHR to ensure daily documentation is done, and laboratory and x-ray reports are received and filed for all tests completed.
• Attend customer and family council meetings, and report all concerns and complaints made by residents or their families to the Administrator.
• Recruit, interview, and select nursing staff with the approval of the Administrator.
• Schedule department work hours, personnel, work assignments, and ensure a sufficient number of nursing personnel are available to meet the needs of our customers.
• Counsel and discipline as necessary, and complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.
• Participate in In-service Education Programs, and assist in implementing and maintaining an effective orientation program.
• Attend and participate in continuing education programs, and place orders for equipment and supplies as necessary.
• Maintain a reference library of written nursing materials, and participate with the Administrator and Admissions Director in selecting appropriate admissions and assignments of rooms.
• Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules, and ensure that professional nursing personnel have valid and current licenses as required by State.
• Ensure changes in customer condition are reported to family and attending physicians.

Additional Requirements:

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must be able to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with personnel.
• Must be personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics enabling these senses to function adequately so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with customers, family members, personnel, and support agencies.
