About Indiana State Prison:
Indiana State Prison is a level‑four maximum‑security facility located in Michigan City, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,400 incarcerated adult males. As the oldest correctional facility in the state, it has a long history and operates on a secured 24‑acre campus with ten manned towers. The prison grounds also include a level‑two facility with a capacity of 385 incarcerated adult males. Staff maintain a clean, orderly environment while prioritizing safety and security. Programs available to incarcerated individuals support personal development and re‑entry preparation where applicable. Role Overview:
As a Clerical Assistant, you will be responsible for all duties and responsibilities associated record keeping, electronic filing, document archiving, and classification notifications. Individuals with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks are highly sought after and will be the most successful in this position. The position will work closely with other support staff in completing facility-required goals and tasks and will be an integral member of a successful and efficient team.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $27,638.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Supports the daily operations of an organization by performing general office tasks
- Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person according to their needs.
- Answers telephones and gives information to callers, take messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.
- Opens, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence, and prepares outgoing mail.
- Operates office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers.
- Accurately maintains and organizes office files.
- Delivers messages and run errands.
- Maintains inventory, orders, and distributes supplies.
- Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.
