JOB SUMMARY

The Custodian is essential toย maintainingย a clean, safe, and dignified environment for guests, staff, and volunteers. This role performs a wide range of critical tasks, including scheduled cleanings, sanitizingย common areas, stocking supplies, managing linen services, processing donations, and preparing vacant units. The position requires a proactive approach to maintenance response, participation in emergency preparedness, and theย timelyย reporting of all facility issues.ย

Essentialย Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

  1. Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules for all assigned areas.ย 
  2. Clean and sanitize bathrooms, showers, toilets, and sinks; keep them fully stocked with supplies.ย 
  3. Mop, sweep, and vacuum all types of floors.ย 
  4. Collect, dispose of, and manage garbage and biohazard waste.ย 
  5. Wash interior and exterior windows and walls.ย 
  6. Restock supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all dispensers.ย 
  7. Change light bulbs and perform other minor tasks as needed.ย 
  8. Report problems to your supervisor, including:ย 
    1. Maintenance needs (water leaks, equipment repair).ย 
    2. Safety hazards (vandalism, damage, pests).ย 
    3. The need for more cleaning supplies.ย 
  9. Prepare vacant rooms/units by cleaning and stocking them with essential items.ย 
  10. Engage with guests, staff, and visitors in a professional, respectful, and trauma-informed manner.ย 
  11. Coordinate the daily washing of all facility linens to ensure guests have clean bedding.ย 
  12. Assistย with collecting, sorting, and managing donations in the warehouse.ย 
  13. Conduct continuous rounds of restroom andย common areasย to ensure safety and respond to issues.ย 
  14. Perform deep floor care, includingย stripping, waxing, and buffing.ย 
  15. Assistย with pest control efforts and basic repairs of facility equipment.ย 
  16. Monitorย and report inappropriate or unsafe behavior to security staffย and seek supportย from other staff, as needed.ย 
  17. Assistย with minor landscaping and exterior maintenance tasks.ย 
  18. Support facility projects at other agency locations as needed.ย 
  19. Attendย mandatory agencyย trainings, including Trauma-Informed Care, Housing Focused, De-escalation, Suicide Prevention, CPR, and more.ย ย 
  20. Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, asย required.ย 
  21. Follow all agency protocols for security, safety, and sanitation toย maintainย a clean and secure environment for guests and staff.ย 
  22. Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of this position.ย

Education and Experienceย 

  • Experience working with diverseย and/or vulnerableย populationsย is preferred.ย ย 
  • High school diploma or GEDย preferred.ย 
  • Previousย housekeeping, custodial, or service industry experience preferred.ย
