The Portland Civil office currently consists of 110 employees including staff in our two satellite offices in Eugene and Washington DC. Job Description
We are seeking a Transportation Engineer with a minimum of 6 years of experience for our expanding Civil Transportation Group. In this role you will focus on roadway design and support the full lifecycle of engineering projects, from early pursuits and proposal support through planning, design, permitting, and construction. You will work closely with Project Managers, clients, and multidisciplinary design teams to help ensure projects meet technical expectations and schedule milestones. We will challenge you to stretch outside your comfort zone with opportunities for growth and increased responsibility. We work on a wide range of transit and transportation projects that are community-focused and emphasize pedestrian and bicycle safety, multimodal accessibility, ADA compliance, and context-sensitive solutions shaped by the community's needs. We collaborate closely with public agencies, transit authorities, contractors, and fellow engineers to deliver thoughtful solutions that improve mobility and public infrastructure.
Responsibilities
  • Apply engineering principles to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to develop project specific solutions drawing on best practices for transportation infrastructure projects including design for city streets, bike and pedestrian facilities, and trails
  • Lead roadway design on assigned projects, including 3D modeling
  • Coordinate and communicate directly with stakeholders, public agencies, and franchise and public utility companies
  • Prepare design plans, reports, cost estimates, and technical analyses as part of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Gain experience in ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements
  • Assist in managing project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful project outcomes
  • Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions that align with their objectives
  • Provide design expertise - mentor, train, and contribute to the development of staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 6 years of applicable transportation design experience
  • Professional Engineer in Oregon
  • MicroStation and Inroads and/or AutoCAD and Civil 3D proficiency

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and priorities
  • Experience with transportation agencies in the Portland area, including PBOT, ODOT, and TriMet

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer, reviewing plans, attending meetings, or conducting site visits
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.

Additional Information
Compensation
The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate for this Transportation Engineer position is $95,000 - $115,000. Additionally, we offer performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. At KPFF, you get paid for every hour you work -- Flex time is earned for any overtime based on total work hours per month. This is an 'exempt' position, so Flex time is calculated as straight time and can be included in payroll or banked and used as paid time off. The maximum Flex hour accrual is 120 hours.
