JOB SUMMARY

The Per Diem CNA Instructor serves as flexible coverage for CI-ION’s Nursing Assistant Training Program. Assignments are offered on an as-needed basis and may include theory instruction, clinical supervision, or both, depending on program needs. This role requires a highly reliable, tech-proficient professional who can step in on short notice and deliver quality instruction consistent with CI-ION standards and CDPH requirements.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

When assigned to a clinical session:

  • Supervise students during clinical rotations at assigned healthcare facility sites

  • Ensure students adhere to best practices, safety protocols, and facility policies at all times

  • Demonstrate proper techniques including lifting, patient mobility, assistive device use, and body mechanics

  • Monitor student performance and provide real-time guidance and feedback during clinical activities

  • Maintain accurate attendance and clinical performance records for each student during every assigned session

  • Complete all required CDPH clinical documentation accurately and submit per Program Director guidelines

  • Report any safety incidents, student concerns, or facility issues to the Program Director immediately

  • Comply with all facility-specific requirements including dress code, credentialing, and access protocols

  • Submit a theory or clinical session summary to the Program Director following each assigned session


TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bigblue button and Google Meet: host and join sessions, manage audio/video, screen share, troubleshoot student issues

  • Moodle LMS: gradebook, attendance module, quiz administration, completion reports, student messaging, file uploads

  • Dialpad: maintain CI-ION work number, check voicemail, return calls within 4 hours on school days, maintain Available status during work hours

  • Google Calendar: accept invites, enable notifications, manage scheduling

  • Email and Google Chat: respond within one business day to CI-ION staff; respond to students within 24 hours on school days when scheduled for consecutive days

  • File management: create and share PDFs and Word documents, use Google Drive

  • ADP: access pay stubs, manage direct deposit



WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment typically includes classroom settings, simulation labs, and clinical environments in healthcare facilities. The position may require standing for extended periods during teaching and supervising clinical practice.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Active California LVN or RN license in good standing

  • Director of Staff Development (DSD) Certificate Must be on file before first assignment.

  • Minimum 1 year experience teaching CNA students in a CDPH state-approved NATP

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience as LVN or RN, including at least 1 year in care of chronically ill or elderly patients

  • Demonstrated proficiency in online teaching platforms must pass CI-ION technology skills assessment

Preferred

  • Prior experience delivering online or hybrid CNA instruction

  • Familiarity with Moodle LMS and CDPH online NATP documentation requirements

  • Ability to accept both short-notice and advance assignments


AVAILABILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Respond to assignment requests within 4 hours during school days (Mon–Fri, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM)

  • Once an assignment is accepted, attendance is mandatory — failure to show without advance notice will be documented and may result in discontinuation of future offers

  • Provide advance notice as early as possible if you must decline or cancel an accepted assignment

  • Notify CI-ION of any changes to your availability, contact information, or licensure status immediately

  • Disclose any concurrent employment involving nursing assistant training programs in California

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay Schedule: Weekly — every Friday via ADP direct deposit

Sick Leave: Accrual method — 1 hour per 30 hours worked (CA SB 616); eligible after 90 calendar days

Overtime: Per CA law — 1.5x over 8 hrs/day or 40 hrs/week; 2x over 12 hrs/day

This is a per diem, non-exempt hourly position. No guaranteed hours, minimum shifts, or additional benefits are included.
