HHM Talent is assisting a client who is searching for a Controller in Chattanooga, TN.


Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting department and oversee the organization's financial operations.

The ideal candidate will be a servant leader who builds strong relationships, takes ownership of responsibilities from start to finish, and approaches challenges with curiosity.

This is a full-time, fully on-site position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and cash-management activities
  • Maintain the general ledger and review journal entries for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements
  • Produce journal entries, financial reports, and profit-and-loss statements by location
  • Ensure all locations accurately roll up into the organization's consolidated financial results
  • Take full ownership of the annual audit, including preparation, coordination, and communication with external auditors
  • Process biweekly payroll; payroll tax filings are handled separately
  • Prepare and file applicable sales tax returns
  • Assist leadership with the annual budgeting process
  • Monitor fixed assets and capital spending in relation to approved budgets
  • Ensure balance-sheet accounts are properly reconciled and supported
  • Provide oversight and analysis related to applicable cost-accounting activities
  • Continue improving accounting operations, including the organization's accounts-payable automation initiative
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure consistent accounting practices across all locations
  • Identify accounting and business-process improvements and ensure initiatives are completed successfully
  • Cross-train team members to improve coverage, collaboration, and departmental effectiveness

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for general ledger accounting, financial reporting, audits, and month-end close
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, payroll, sales tax, fixed assets, and balance-sheet reconciliations
  • Experience supporting a multi-location organization is strongly preferred
  • Exposure to cost accounting is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains is helpful but not required
  • Experience with a comparable ERP system, such as Sage or NetSuite, will also be considered

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $120,000–$140,000, based on experience
  • Incentive opportunity: 5% of base salary
