This role is based in our Newton, MA office (the team generally work 3 days in office, and remotely Mondays and Fridays).

Position Overviewย 

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Controller at our $500M publicly traded technology company. This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting, managing the monthly close process, and ensuring compliance with SOX requirements. The ideal candidate combines Big 4 accounting firm experience with public company expertise and possesses the leadership skills to drive operational excellence while managing a global team.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operationsย 

  • Oversee all accounting operations for the company, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with US GAAPย 
  • Lead and manage the monthly close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statementsย 
  • Ensure timely completion of month-end reporting and adherence to all close deadlinesย 
  • Develop and maintain the monthly close calendar, coordinating activities across global teamsย 
  • Review and approve financial statements and supporting schedulesย ย 
  • Primary contact for external auditors queries on reported resultsย 

SOX Compliance & Internal Controlsย 

  • Ensure all accounting processes maintain compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirementsย 
  • Implement and monitor appropriate review and sign-off procedures in accordance with SOX controlsย 
  • Partner with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual auditsย 
  • Identify control deficiencies and implement remediation plansย 

Team Leadership & Developmentย 

  • Lead and develop a global team of five accounting professionals with plans for team expansionย 
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance management to direct reportsย 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional developmentย 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A and other finance teams, as well as internal and external stakeholdersย 

Process Improvement & Strategic Initiativesย 

  • Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and internal controlsย 
  • Develop comprehensive plans to address operational gaps and drive improvementsย 
  • Implement process enhancements and see initiatives through to completionย 
  • Leverage technology and automation to improve efficiency and scalabilityย 
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives as neededย 
Qualifications

Education & Certificationย 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountingย 
  • Active CPA license (required)ย 

Professional Experienceย 

  • 7+ย years of progressive accounting experienceย 
  • Minimum 5 years at a Big 4 accounting firm, having achieved Manager level or aboveย 
  • Experience in a publicly traded company environmentย ย 
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirementsย 
  • Proven experience with SOX compliance and internal controls over financial reportingย 

Technical Skillsย 

  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and technical accounting mattersย 
  • Strong understanding of public company reporting requirements (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K)ย 
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience is a plus but not required)ย 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting toolsย

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing and developing teamsย 
  • Strong executive presence with ability to communicate effectively with senior leadershipย

The salary range for this role is $110,000- $135,000 based on experience.
