Job description

Coastal Hospice invites you to join a team of caregivers who are committed to promoting dignity and quality of life for patients and families who face life-limiting conditions.  In your role as a _Thrift Store Assistant____, you will help ensure that every patient and family is honored, supported and comforted as they receive the right care at the right time throughout their journey preforming the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Thrift Shop Operations Manager, provides support for the operation of the Thrift Shop
  • Prepares merchandise for sale and display; including accepting, sorting, washing, hanging and moving to sales floor as appropriate
  • Prepares houseware items by hand cleaning or running through dishwasher
  • Assists in removing seasonal items from sales floor and follows Thrift Shop SOP for storing and recycling merchandise, seasonal items
  • Prices merchandise
  • Assists in ensuring volunteers are following sales floor processes
  • Displays merchandise in an appealing way
  • May open and close store as needed
  • Operate cash register as needed and compute end of day total cash register reports
  • Helps stock sales floor with inventory
  • Creates a positive image of Coastal Hospice in all customer transactions
  • Successful completion of the Coastal Hospice orientation and Thrift Shop training
  • Other duties as directed by the Thrift Shop Operations Manager or their designee

Other Requirements:

  • Work Hours: 40 hours per week during the summer, 32-40 hours per week during the off-season
  • Must be available on Saturdays 
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent within the guidelines of ADA, FMLA, OSHA and other federal, state and local laws
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds with or without the use of assistive devices
  • Ability to stand for up to four (4) hours
  • Understand and comply with Coastal Hospice’s mission, values, vision, policies and Employee Handbook

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Customer service attitude; works well with others, relates positively and courteously with a variety of people and co-workers
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Knowledge of grief process
