Job description


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Generates a daily release report on each business day and during weekend/holiday coverage.
  • Reviews material on hold and releases plate or coil if the product satisfies all quality requirements for shipment - includes planned computer holds requiring testing validation and manual holds due to testing failures or suspect quality.
  • Orders new testing for test failures and downgrades/de-allocates material as advised by supervisor.
  • Review Plate and Coil product railcars twice daily
  • Investigates requests to switch product from one order to another and verifies acceptability of material. Advises scheduling of downgrades/de-allocation to allow for rapid remake of order
  • Coordinates identity/grade discrepancies (e.g. illegible or incorrect identification) and investigates and reviews problems with supervisor prior to responding to customer.
  • Assists Sales with satisfying customer requirements - includes issue of re-stencil/die-stamp letters to customers. Responds to re-certification requests from Customers and Sales.
  • Send any physical or chemistry failures to metallurgist and/or physical lab manager. Orders new testing from Shipping
  • Coordinates UT testing with outside inspection company
  • Generates test certificates and reviews them to ensure that relevant test data is shown. Emails test certificates to customers. Coordinates distribution of certificates between shipbuilding survey societies such as ABS / BV and customers. Enters test data into EDI for selected customers. Controls filing and preservation of quality records.
  • Enters test data into the computer system as required, including tensile, charpy, hardness, chemistry, etc. Files chemistry data sheets.
  • Notarizes documents as required by customers or state authorities.
  • Generates statistical data from mill and CTL temper lines.
  • Assists QMS Coordinator on projects when requested

QUALIFICATIONS - Education, Experience and Competencies
Required:
• High school diploma / GED equivalent
• Associates degree or equivalent business experience
• Computer literate with proficiency in Outlook, Word and Excel
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work well with other team members
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Possess solid organizational skills
• Regular and reliable attendance
Preferred:
• Associates or Bachelor's Degree
• Customer Service experience
• Experience in quality assurance, ISO-9001, quality systems, and/or quality audits
• Knowledgeable in steel production, shipping, or traffic/logistics operations
• Notary Public
• Experience with CORIS database & Level 3 software
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES / DIRECT REPORTS
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position operates in an office environment. The role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, scanners and postage meters. This role is partially sedentary, sitting for several hours at desk and walking to/from and standing at alternative work areas (e.g. photocopiers, paper shredders, mailroom); alternate sitting and standing as needed. Filing and handling materials is required.
The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:

The employee is frequently required to:
