Control Systems Engineer/AUTOCAD/PLC/PID

35-40.00 AN HOUR W2 contract

Temp to perm, 3-6 months conversion depending on their fit with the team and company culture

  • Senior-level Control Systems Engineer responsible for end-to-end automation project delivery, including system design, PLC programming, panel layouts, and field implementation
  • Works closely with clients to define requirements, troubleshoot systems, and ensure successful commissioning
  • Acts as a technical leader/mentor within a small, collaborative engineering team
  • Plays a role in developing new business and supporting sales efforts, making this more than a pure engineering role
  • Ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, client-facing, and entrepreneurial environment

The position involves approximately 50% travel, but about 95% of that travel is local. The employee will almost always be home at the end of the day, and overnight travel should be minimal.

The Control Systems Engineer Systems Engineer III will be responsible for the complete design, programing and installation of machine motion controls, design of the system of motion components and control panels for large industrial environments. Designs will meet client defined objectives within budgets and standards established by AS LLC. This position will be responsible for all programming, program integration, panel design and instrument selection. In addition, it will involve development of engineering standards, project management, in-shop and on-site construction oversight. In the process, the Control Systems Engineer III will also identify and secure new business opportunities.The Controls Engineer III will report to the Engineering Manager but is expected to be independent in the completion of their tasks. The Control System Engineer III may function as a mentor or lead to other Controls personnel.

Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • New client development by identifying potential markets, networking, and establishing relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Support sales and marketing teams to align engineering capabilities with market demands.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their automation needs and develop tailored solutions that improve efficiency and productivity. Working with customers to define project definition and scope.
  • Produce electrical schematic drawings of Control Panel Layouts using AutoCAD Electrical for new and existing clients.

ยท Specify and verify controls requirements on new equipment and existing equipment retrofits including maintenance of accurate drawings and documentation.

ยท Supervise installation of engineering systems or retrofits on new and existing equipment.

ยท Oversee new equipment development through validation, start-up, and continuous process improvement.

ยท Create and maintain and Engineering file for each project

ยท Design and interpret PLC code.

ยท Oversees a progress schedule for each project.

ยท Function as key resource in troubleshooting controls and PLC issues in the processing facilities.

ยท Ensure design changes are documented and communicated through the documentation revision processes

ยท Create technical specifications and technical design documents for equipment.

ยท Oversees the inspection of panels for correct wiring and set-up and perform in-house testing of engineered PLC code

ยท Travel to customers facilities for assessment & engineering specifications, installation and start-up of panels and follow up to ensure proper function and customer satisfaction

ยท Function as technical resource to customers to address and resolve inquiries and problems and ensure the successful completion of current or other AS LLC projects.

ยท Assist office personnel in creating BOM for customers, completion of field service reports, job costing timecards, payables, and invoices to the customer

ยท Maintain technical competency and remain current on new technology and trends in the industry.

ยท Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards. Adhere to company policies set out in the employee handbook.

ยท Other Duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

While having no supervisory duties, the Control Systems Engineer III is an important member of a project team, and as such must demonstrate the ability to work well in a team setting, communicating, and supporting the project by the application of their unique duties and skills. The Controls Engineer III would be a resource as a trainer or lead in their department.

Education and Experience

ยท Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (or related field)

ยท Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in control systems.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements

ยท Experience with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical

ยท Strong PLC programming skills including PID Development

ยท Good written & verbal communication skills

ยท Good analytical skills

ยท Business computer literacy skills (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, database etc.)

ยท Strong communication skills both written and oral for internal documentation as well as direct interaction with outside suppliers, internal Managers and Sr. Management.

ยท Ability to work independently on multiple projects.
