Job description

Description
The University Union (UNION) at Sacramento State is seeking a student assistant who will be responsible for the daily physical setup of furniture and equipment in our meeting spaces. This includes tables, chairs, portable stages, dance floor, and various other event related equipment.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
Prerequisites
Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

Work Schedule
Shifts are available as early as 6:00 am and may extend as late as 3:00 am 7 days a week. Most shifts are 3.5 - 4 hours.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).
Compensation
$16.90 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to correctly follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability and desire to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. with assistance.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in hospitality or event related field.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up furniture and equipment in meeting and event space per customer's specifications.
  • Respond to customer requests and meet customer's needs on the day of their event.
  • Move furniture and equipment between rooms and between floors.
  • Do basic cleaning of rooms such as emptying trash, vacuuming, and wiping down tables for each room setup.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk nearly continuously for 3-4 hours.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. (with assistance).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl in confined spaces.

Working Conditions
Work is performed inside a multi-story building and in / outside areas both during the day and at night.
