Position: Assistant Sport Performance Coach (Full-Time, 12-Month)
Effective Date: On or about June 1, 2026 (1-Year Appointment, Renewable)
Salary Range: The Coaching Assistant (12-Month) classification salary is $75,456 to $91,896 per year (paid as 12 monthly payments). Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Long Beach State Athletics

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Demonstrated two years of practical experience as a Sport Performance specialist in a broad-based collegiate setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including Black/African American, Latine/x, Native American/Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, and minoritized students.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree
Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations
Practical knowledge of periodization, Olympic-style lifts, speed development, agility, flexibility, plyometrics, and conditioning
Experience as a sport performance coach at the college level
Demonstrated ability to coach quality student athletes
Ability to motivate student-athletes to perform at their optimal level
Computer skills; public relations skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent organizational skills.

Duties:
Collaborate with coaching staff across 19 men's and women's athletic teams to assist in the design and delivery of safe, effective, and progressive pre-season, in-season, and off-season sport-specific strength and conditioning programs.
Implement and monitor training programs that optimize athletic performance and reduce injury risk, including instruction in resistance training, speed, agility, and conditioning techniques, with a consistent emphasis on proper form and safety.
Support the daily operations of the Sports Performance department under the direction of the Director of Sports Performance, contributing to a positive training environment and advancing the philosophy and objectives of the athletic department.
Partner with Sports Medicine staff and Team Physicians to implement rehabilitation strategies and structured return-to-play protocols, ensuring student-athletes transition safely and effectively back to competition.
Maintain professional certification requirements and continuing education.
Ensure the strength and conditioning facility is maintained to the highest standard to support safe and effective training.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance or other appropriate administrator in support of departmental goals and student-athlete development.

 EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
