Theย Solar Farm Technician IIย is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance across allย  scopes of an operating power plant. This includes civil, mechanical, and electrical inspection and repair, as well as instrumentation and control (I&C). The role also involves operational duties such as monitoring, controlling, and trending, ensuring proactive work to maximize productivity and generation with a focus on safety and maximizing generation, and ensuring proactive work is prioritized and completed.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and by site operating procedures
  • Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA's, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation that is required to conduct inspection, maintenance, and repairs in a safe manner
  • Proactively look for improvement opportunities to job job-appropriate processes and procedures
  • Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
  • Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where appropriate
  • Perform electrical testing as necessary, including insulation and thermal testing
  • Document all work and generate reports as necessary
  • Use Microsoft Office for communication, presentation, and documentation
  • Use computer software in support of maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
  • At times, may assist with BOP activities
  • Respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Ensure site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections are performed by site protocols
  • Interface with any 3rd party contractors working at our facilities
  • Available to respond to nontraditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues, including emergent abnormal operating conditions, execution of maintenance, tracking work orders, resolution of O&M issues
  • Operate mobile equipment, including mowers, forklifts, tractors, excavators, and motor vehicles
  • Professionally represent the company with contractor and vendor relations, as well as during partnership opportunities within the community
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • An Associate degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited US school other than correspondence or internet is preferred
  • Current Nevada State PV Installers licence
  • NABCEP Certfication or Electrical License preferred
  • An unrestricted driver's license in good standing required
  • Minimum 2 years' work experience as a maintenance electrician (commercial or industrial), or 4 years of experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician performing electrical work on operating equipment; or 2 years' experience in operations and maintenance of power generation, transmission, or distribution
  • Experience in solar operations and maintenance a plus
  • Skilled in power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance as well as substation maintenance
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
  • Must be competent in electrical safety
  • Must be competent in understanding the NEC
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and evolving schedules
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Complete required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
  • First aid/CPR/AED
  • OSHA Certified
  • Shift work
  • Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable and trainable
  • Adaptive to new technologies and methods
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and look beyond the work task concerning discovering new opportunities for corrective work

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is a field-based role that involves some travel and visits to other RWE Americas offices and fieldย locations
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
